Implementation of Grade Program:
Taking help from the survey conducted before hand, we have come up with the following facts:
- Karachi is divided into eighteen (18) administrative towns. - There are approximately three thousand (3000) schools in whole city of Karachi. - According to our approximation there are around 166 schools in each town. - An average strength of a school is 250 so total strength of school going children is 750,000. In order to implement the Grade Program, Gopec will divide its personnel into groups. As there are eighteen towns - there would be eighteen Coordinators, each coordinator would be in charge of its town. Under each Coordinator would be ten (10) Coordinating officers. These coordinating officers would make the visits to the schools and help implement the Grade Program.
All these coordinating officers and the Coordinators would be under the leadership of one chief Coordinator. Each coordinating officer would visit an average of 16 schools each month. Visiting each school daily would take them 16 days in a month. Deducting 4 days as holidays they would be left with 10 days in which they would generate their monthly report to submit to their respective Coordinator who would then submit it to the Chief Coordinator.
These coordinating officers would take then printed material to the schools on monthly basis. Each school having an average of around 10 classes from grade I to VIII and around 10 class teachers would be given 15 broachers or the printed material. A copy for each of the class teachers or the subject teacher and the rest for school records and the principal and other admin staff.
Activation of Environmental Clubs Program: In Karachi it is a must for all the schools to have an environmental club but unfortunately all the schools do not make arrangements to activate this club in a real and effective manner. Gopec has decided to take these clubs under its guardianship so that the students can make use of this facility, which they are deprived of. All the schools do not activate these clubs which unfortunate. Gopec will take over a club as a model and develop the interest among the students. After that other schools would be urged to follow the footsteps of the model school. To create an atmosphere of competition different contests would be arranged among clubs of different schools in a town and among all the towns of the city.
Gopec plans to arrange different programs in schools in each town for childrens interest to teach them in an attractive, friendly and effective manner. These programs would contain the following items:
Face painting for the students. Quiz among different classes regarding environment. Plantation in or near the schools. Lectures. Distribution of questionnaires among students and teachers.
For this purpose, Gopec would make a team of its members and volunteers, which would go to different schools and arrange many attractive programs regarding environment and environmental control. Gopec also has qualified personals as its members for delivering lectures to students as well as teachers. Prizes would be distributed among top three schools of each town to keep their interest intact. Prizes would be given to the most efficient teachers and to the school, which participated in this program in the most active manner. These steps would create an atmosphere of competition among the schools of the whole city and thus will become helpful in spreading awareness throughout the city. As a side program, it is decided to train the teachers and to inform them about the facts about how we can control the environmental problems by our own selves. For this a complete plan is made which includes seminars and guest lectures with the teachers and printed material for their guidance. A complete syllabus will be prepared to be included as a part of their curriculum so that the students may remain in touch with their surroundings. Besides this, they can learn about this important aspect of their life, which they are almost ignorant of. This syllabus will contain introduction to the planet earth and environment of earth, destructive forces of the types i.e. natural as well as man created and ways to prevent the planet earth from this fatal destruction. This will be a complete guide for the students to understand the seriousness of the problem and to learn to take care about those petty things which are so very important for not only the planet but for their own selves as well. Professors will deliver lectures with tips of good teaching methods as well.
Each school will be given the printed material every month containing that months topic. This material would be given to the teachers so that they came prepare lectures or study sessions for the students. One of the many things which would be mentioned in the monthly study material would be things like top ten negative trends which would contain the list as followed:
Increased pollution Worse water pollution More deforestation Intensified hunting of animals More toxic waste More air pollution Over population Widening ozone hole Increased amounts of rubbish |
