PCTC 2002 "Come to the Table"

(Pennsylvania Christian Teen Convention)

February 22-24, 2002

Luke 22:29-30:“And I confer on you a kingdom, just as my father conferred one on me, so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.”

Through the mercy and grace of the Lord we, you and I, have been invited to a party – a feast, a regale!  We are ticket-holders to the ultimate banquet.  Bona fide invited guests.  Guests that can come to the table with our tragedies.  Guests that can come to the table with our triumphs.  Guests that can share in the ultimate celebration “at the table.”  All we need to do is to respond, and “Come to the Table.”  CU@PCTC2002

The PCTC is in the Hilton Harrisburg and Towers, with Main Sessions taking place in the Harrisburg Forum.  Housing for the convention is facilitated by the Hilton, with overflow in the Crowne Plaza.

Someone: oh my goodness there are two sneakers on the road.

Everyone: oh man

Katie: oh my gosh [covers her eyes]

Mr. Rosebrock: Maybe we should have gotten off the next exit for Harrisburg.

[Pull over to get directions from a nice man]

Nice Man: you look lost, where are you going?

Colleen: the Hilton towers hotel.

Nice Man: down here take a         and then       you can’t miss it.

The Forum

12:00 Curfew – Do not disturb

Saturday:

8:45 Awards Variety Show – The Forum

Results of Video Contest, Banner competition, scholarship Award, Mission Trips & Public Speaking

Felicia: next year were going to win the banner contest.

10:30 Workshop Session 1

Last night we decided to as a group to sit in on the workshop “Sex Lies and Video”(you can make it through your single years as a warrior protecting your wedding night. Here are some practical tips on how to be a fighter not a looser).  However, Tim Jones (the speaker) is full of surprises, one of which is making the session a boy’s only workshop.  Sorry girls.  Surprise number two was no video, but Tim had that covered.  He is about as entertaining as any video clip.

11:30 Workshop Session 2

For this session we decided to listen in on “How do I get through” (Crisis, overwhelming situations, seeming insurmountable odds? This workshop equips you to manage and cope)

12:30 Lunch

We ate lunch at the Strawberry food court attached to the Hilton.

2:30 Workshop Session 3

I had circled on the schedule “Food Hate & Love” (An Exploration of Gods perspective on eating disorders and self-esteem.)  The room was kind of small for this one so we had to sit on the floor in the back.  As you can see, Felicia sat across from me on the floor.

3:30 Workshop Session 4

We planed to see the Video Mini Theater.  However, things don’t always work out as you plan.  Philip led the group to the Forum only to find out that it was really all the way back at the Crown hotel, where we just came from.  By the time we got there, the workshop was full out the door and there was no chance of getting in.

Josh Nick and Caleb went off to the Hilton with the video camera.  Later they came back with a video of being stuck in a crowded elevator for about 5 minutes.  Mr. Rosebrock happened to be in the lobby and got to see the emergency alarm go off and the hotel management running around frantically.  The elevators were not quite right at the Hilton the rest of the day.  Nick says he was scared but the camera calmed him down.

Mr. Rosebrock made reservations at the Crown Plaza Hotel and treated us to Dinner there.  It was the richest dinner of the week, everyone was impressed with the covers on the plates.  Even the music sounded rich.

7:30 Main Session – The Forum

More people on stage: (give their testimony) that is why I can come to the table.

Praise band: Lord we lift your name on high…I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever…Open The Eyes Of My Heart…In the Secret…

[Intermission before GX Jam]

9:50 GX Jam

Guys skateboarding, one girl on role blades, Huge ramp! Huge air!

Announcer: okay we need some volunteers.

Nick: [standing on his chair] me me over here!!!

Announcer: [points to brian] you in the white.

Nick: that was my chance to fame and I missed it, my dream since I got here has vanished right before my eyes.

Phil: don’t worry Nick, there is always next year.

Brian: [busts a move on stage] (I didn’t even know I could do that)

Everyone: Go Brian!!!

[The real dancers come out]  Man! that guy really knows how to get his grove on.

Nick: Woe!

Skateboard dude: [gives his testimony] Jesus is real just like this [kneels down and pounds on the stage]

[people from the audience come to the table to give their life to Jesus or to give up a sin that they have been struggling with.]

12:00 Curfew changed to 12:30

Sunday:

9:00 Main Session – Hilton Ballroom

[This year there was too many people to have chairs, so everyone sat on the floor]

Some college students were assigned to play unchristian like characters during the first two days.  This was in order to see the reaction of the Christians attending PCTC (us).  During the church service, each person who had played a character gave a report of the reactions they had received during the first two days of the convention.  There were negative and positive reactions to almost every character.  One of the girls played the role of a hippie that was into the whole druggie thing.  She was discouraged because know one approached her out of Christian love.  Instead, she was only subject to pointing and snickering from the Christian youth at the convention.  She said, “I cannot come to the table” and left the room.  Know one clapped, probably out of shame.  After the last person had given their report and sat at the table, the girl who had walked out came back into the room and sat at the table.  This time everyone clapped.

We were about to eat lunch at the Hilton hotel resturant until we found out that they would have to squeeze us in among 200 reservations.  Thanks but no thanks, we will eat on the road.

First stop Hershey

Nick: Josh video tape me hugging the Hershey bar.

The candy store has a buy one get one free on the variety pack.

At least three of us took advantage of this opportunity.

Everyone pitched in a dollar so Nick would have enough money for the sale.

The five pound Hershey bar was a little too expensive for any of us but it looked really good.

Phil: some day I am going to buy that bar and frame the wrapper.

Nick: [frolics out the door waving his candy around while being video taped]

Colleen: if I get converse shoes will I do that too?

Felicia: next year we have to make a banner and video.  And I can make tee shirts for us in my shop at school.

Nick: I’m going to write a mad phat song, and then ask the coordinator ahead of time to let me be part of the show.  That way I don’t have to worry about them not picking me.

Phil: ya, next year were going to be underdogs.

Felicia: were going to need two vans for everyone that is going to come next year.

[I think we all had a pretty good time]

Someone: hey, it’s the crayola factory next exit.

Someone: (just kidding around) lets go.

Mr. Rosebrock: okay, I need a break anyways.

Nick: really, cool

Crayola factory man: $8 for a tour.

I think we will pass; the gift shop looks entertaining enough.

Someone is enjoying themselves. (that’s Brian fading into the picture)

               [Everyone likes Caleb’s music]

Felicia: who is this?  [Points to the CD]

Caleb: that is Reliant K, that one is Joy Electric, Superchic[k] is awesome too, that’s MxPx.

Felicia & Katie: [writes everything down to download later]

Phil: hey this is our exit already that was fast.

Bye Caleb, bye Colleen, bye Brian, See you next Sunday Katie, Nick, Felicia, bye Phil, bye Josh, bye Bethany, bye, Mr. Rosebrock, thanks for coming everyone!
