This is what I have to work with. It looks like somebody puked strawberry's all over. I cant stand to see it anymore so I'm going to paint it. The frame had the typical scaley rust then it got hit by a ton of overspray during the paint job.
These look the same right? well actually these are after I scraped with a household paint scraper(worked suprisingly good),then got all the nooks and cranny's with a gasket scraper, then wire brushed the whole damn thing then washed it! looks like crap still, but at least the paint and undercoating will addhear well.
Whats this you say? two projects at once? no mere mortal should have to perform this task, let alone want too. But here I am anyway, trying to make the grill nice and shiny.  The factory  painted the horizontal bars and the part around the headlights a dull grey color. I found if you polish it with very very fine steel wool the paint comes of and the beautifull chrome comes out. you can see from the picture i have got the bottom three done and the top four to go.
Next pics should be of the frame all painted and purty. Hopefully within the next day or two.
IT'S DONE! ... well, almost
One coat of black primer and one coat of aerosol can undercoating. some spots I had to hit second time with the undercoat, but it covered pretty well. The overspray wasn't bad at all. I draped the whole jeep with plastic and taped of by the wheel wells just in case.Even got a free buzz because I forgot to crack open the garage door. That sucked.
The wheel well looks a million times better. Someday I plan on installing a Rusty's 4 inch spring lift, so at least it wont look crappy behind the wheel
I'm very happy with these results. The only bad part is the almost bit. I only have one side done. So it's back out to the garage.
I still haven't gotten around to polishing the rest of this lousy grill. I keep hoping  elves or something will do it while I'm not looking.
