| Jeff Burgess Fourth Grade Teacher Greenfield Elementary School 409 Montgomery St. Greenfield, MO 65631 November 26, 2003 Press Release: Greenfield Elementary School has been awarded a $573 grant for a fourth grade field trip to two Lewis and Clark sites. This project was made possible through the Missouri Department of Conservations Lewis and Clark Conservation Grant Program. The grant was applied for by the fourth grade teachers, Mr. Burgess and Mrs. Neill. Both fourth grade classes of Greenfield Elementary will participate in these activities on March 5, 2004. The first site to be visited will be the new Lewis & Clark Boat House and Nature Center, the Discovery Expedition's permanent home. Situated beside the Missouri River at Bishop's Landing in charming historic St. Charles, Missouri, the educational facility features exhibits relating to the Lewis and Clark expedition as well as the Missouri River ecosystem. The second site to be visited will be The Missouri Historical Society's Lewis & Clark: The National Bicentennial Exhibition, which follows the Corps of Discovery from the banks of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers through the human geography of western North America. This exhibition at the Missouri History Museum in Forest Park in St. Louis will bring together, for the first time since 1806, hundreds of rare and priceless artifacts and documents. The core of this once-in-a-lifetime exhibition will be formed by artifacts, artwork, and documents entrusted to the Missouri Historical Society by the Clark and Lewis families in the early 20th century. Period objects and art will represent the equipment the explorers used, the landscapes they saw, and the Native American tribes they met. More than 600 artifacts will illustrate cultural encounters along the journey of Lewis and Clark. The Missouri Historical Society's collections will be augmented by objects from other institutions with significant Lewis and Clark and ethnographic holdings, including the American Philosophical Society, the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia, the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology, the Smithsonian Institution, the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscripts Library, the Library of Congress, the National Archives, and the Oregon Historical Society.
