In late August, 1999, I will celebrate two years as a
Community Leader. During this time, I have served on
a wide variety of committees, including...
in Heartland:
The Heartland Pet Gazette, Editor
Critique & Review Committee
Heartland Select- Co Chair
Krafts Korner
Mentor
and I am currently still a CL in Heartland and on the
Heart of the City Committee and The Heartland Edition,
Editor for Animals, plus a CL for Prairie 5500-5749.
When Petsburgh opened in September of 1998, I was invited
to become their Liaison for Committees, Projects and
Editorials. The neighborhood was not even "open" to the
public when we set up some of the committees plus our own
homepages and the Petsburgh Station. I had moved the
Heartland Pet Gazette from Plains to Pointe and I moved
it again to Petsburgh where it became the Petsburgh Post.
Our page in Heartland is called Pekehaven and it was too
big and established to move so Peke Avenue was created in
Petsburgh to spotlight our spoiled pet Pekingese! I also
have a site in Yosemite, where I manage the DixieLand Pet
Awards and a site in RainForest devoted to wolves, etc.
I created the DixieLand Pet Awards after requests from
website owners in areas other than Geocities. The Heartland
Pet Awards is for Geo/Yahoo sites and has been at Pekehaven
for a long time now.
In Petsburgh, I finally gave up my "baby" ... the Petsburgh
Post and it is now chaired by SuSue, although I stayed on
as the Editor for Boomer's Bytes!! I am Co-Chair of the
World Festival, serve on Pet Site of the Week, Pet Site of
the Month, Blue Ribbon Pet Awards, the Petsburgh Party and
the Petsburgh Gazette. I am still a Mentor and I count
some of Petsburgh's most active CL's as my former trainees!
I have been really lucky with trainees.. only one asked me
how much it paid and then left (LOL) and only a couple quit
during training and that was back in Heartland. My
trainees have been eager, intelligent, talented, dedicated
and have done fantastic, which I had nothing to do with,
but it is a great source of pride for me that they are
"MINE!"
When age is discussed, I slither off into the corner and
hide but suffice to say, I am old enough to really be the
"Mom" to most of our CL's. I have two grown children
and two beautiful granddaughters, who live in the state
of Washington. My husband, Larry and I have been married
almost ten years and our "kids" all have fur or feathers!!
He and I dated when we were 15 then lost touch for many
years and met again after I was widowed. He did not care
much for dogs when we met...we now have a houseful and
he is as protective as me, if not more so. He has even
learned to like cats!
All our Pekingese are pure bred but we did not like being
"breeders" because we wanted to KEEP all the puppies so
the females are all spayed. They range in age from Gizmo,
age 10, to our newest, Patches, who is 2. Pekes are
primarily inside dogs so we have a HOUSE OF HAIR and the
vet loves us but they are worth it! We have added a cat,
Sir Wally, a stray I found at work and we have three birds.. a Cockatiel, a Parakeet and a pet Cardinal (I also
found at work, just a tiny baby, blown out of the nest
during a thunderstorm). My daughter's guinea pig, Trudy,
also resides with us.
I work full time evening shift at a Medical Center in the
Call Center and have been there 20 years this October.
It is a high stress job so I need the relaxation provided
by my Internet activities (most of the time!)
We are both lifelong residents of Arkansas, although
I have lived briefly in California, Alaska, North Dakota
and Illinois. Larry was born here but spent most of
his early years in Albequerque, New Mexico. I spent
early years on a farm and have always been surrounded
by animals, usually dogs. I have owned three Collies
in the past so they are a favorite breed but we are too
Peke-poor to have one now!
Me and Smokey, Little Joe, Prissy, Mickey and Ranger and two I cannot identify
And here is Sir Wally one of our newest additions!
