Mercedes Ruehl was born on February 28th 1948 in Queens, New York. Besides her role as Kate Costas in Frasier, she has also appeared in films such as Married To The Mob (1988) and Last Action Hero (1993). Kate has also guest starred in The Cosby Show and Kate & Allie, both in 1984. She recently appeared in The Minus Man (1999), The Amati Girls (2000) and the mini-series Widows in 2001. Mercedes is an Academy Award winning actress for The Fisher King with Jeff Bridges and Robin Williams, taking home the best supporting actress award.
