Plot: Niles has made up his mind - he's going to tell Daphne how he feels about her. Whilst she's in the kitchen, he tells Frasier of his plans, but she overhears. Horrified that she's found out this way, Niles goes to talk to her, where she asks who his date is. It turns out she didn't hear Niles say her name, just the "I'm in love with her" part. Niles is about to say "Daphne" but chickens out and says "Phyllis", the name of one of his neighbours!!!

Niles pretends to arrange a date with Phyllis (he really calls his own answering machine). That night, it's his "date" and he's prepared to have an evening in by himself when Daphne appears. She's come to help him prepare for his date!!! Niles tries to get rid of her but she insists on staying until Phyllis arrives.

Once they've set everything up - candles, dinner, smart dress - there's a knock at the door. It's Phyllis - some of Niles' mail arrived at her door instead and she's bringing it over for her. Then Daphne enters and tells Phyllis to sit down and make herself comfortable. How will Niles get out of this one?

Meanwhile Frasier wants to watch the end of a drama on TV, but everywhere he goes people seem to want to tell him the ending.....

Subtitles: The Potatoes Are The Politicians.

Trivia: Niles gets the closest he's ever been so far to revealing his secret, but chickens out half way through saying Daphne's name. The result? "Da-Phyllis"!! - "It's a family name. Her friends call her 'Phyllis'." Elizabeth makes a reappearance too. Daphne puts on some music during the dinner - it's Vissi d'Arte from Puccini's Tosca. This is the piece of music Niles said he'd like to have with him on a desert island back in Ep 20 "Fortysomething".
