Skyline: Fireworks explode over the skyline.

Plot: Frasier receives a call from Gretchen, who comes from Austria and is convinced her fencing-teacher husband Gunnar is having an affair. Roz interrupts and says that Gretchen should offer him two meals. If he picks the high-fat one, he's not concerned about his weight and isn't having an affair. If he picks the low-fat one, he's cheating on her. Gretchen decides to do that and hangs up.

Niles mentions to Frasier that Maris is having fencing instructions from a German guy named Gunnar. Frasier wonders - is this the same Gunnar who's married to Gretchen? When Gretchen phones in again next day, Frasier becomes convinced that Maris is cheating with Gunnar.

Frasier goes to confront Maris, who is in a sensory-deprivation tank. Or so he thinks - it was in fact Niles in there, and he has heard everything!!! It turns out Marta, the maid, got her prounouns wrong and thought that Niles was "Missy Crane". Niles is distraught and turns to his family for comfort.

Niles decides the only thing to do is to fight Gunnar for Maris. And when this fight involves Niles swinging from a chandelier and a conversation where Gunnar, who can only speak German, speaks to Marta, who translates into Portuguese for Frasier, who translates into English for Niles, you won't be wondering why this episode won Frasier an Emmy award.....

Subtitles: Bavarians At The Gate; In Case You're Wondering It's A Sensory Deprivation Tank; Get Out Your Dictionaries.

It's Maris!!!: Gunnar gives Maris a name that roughly translates as "not quite human woman". Maris also tried to commit suicide after Frasier confronted her over the correctness of serving veal.

Where Everybody Knows Your Name: Mention of Lilith.

Trivia: This Emmy-award winning episode featured the first appearance of Marta and a mention of Hester Crane.
