41 "Daphne's Room"

Cut Scenes

  • When Frasier enters Daphne's room for the first time, there was a little scene where he opened a music box and it started playing music, causing Frasier to quickly close it.
  • When Frasier and Martin are talking after Daphne exits to her room, the conversation was bit smaller in the script. Extra lines were added in for the show.
  • When Martin asks Niles to put his hand down the disposal, there was a little bit cut where he says Niles has "skinny little fingers" and Niles said they were "skinny little freshly manicured fingers." When Niles pulled his fingers out after Frasier turns it on, he asked Frasier to count his fingers to make sure they were all there!
  • When Daphne enters her room, there was bit cut where she called to martin that she'd thought that "a man who spends half his life prattling on about sports might actually want to move a muscle of his own." Martin laughs sarcastically. This was replaced in the show with Daphne telling him he has double exercises tomorrow.
  • In the script, we see Eddie enter Daphne's room by nuzzling open the door, but neither Daphne nor Frasier see him.
  • At Cafe Nervosa next day, Frasier notices Niles' hickey and comments on Maris' "limited lung capacity".
  • The scene where Niles wants to know every detail about seeing Daphne naked was not in the script, instead Niles just sighed and said, "There goes my afterglow."
  • There was a quite long bit cut from the scene where Roz tells Frasier she agrees with Niles, but doesn't want it broadcast because she knows people in the Cafe. :-) She then tells Frasier and Niles a story about George Burns and Gracie Allen, where he cheated on her and bought her a present as an apology. 7 years later, Gracie wishes George would cheat again because she needs a new centrepiece! Roz laughs and says she loves that story.
  • The scene where Daphne empties her bag to Frasier was a bit longer in the script, as we find out she has birth control pills but hasn't "had much use for them recently", and that she is 2 years older than her licence says.

Major Dialogue Changes

  • When Niles talks about Maris, he says her "eyes were as dead as a shark" in the script rather than saying it was "twitching like a frog" in the show.
  • After Frasier asked if Maris had moved into the East Wing again, Niles said in the script: "Lock, stock and slumber mask."
  • Martin added "Gum?" to his list of suggestions to Niles for Maris in the script.
  • As Niles laves, he says "And so it goes" in the show, but "I thought so" in the script.
  • When Martin tells Frasier he has the book, he added in the script that he only lets himself read one chapter a night!
  • There are a few slight differences in the conversation after Daphne catches Frasier.
  • Niles had fewer "pleases" to say to Nadia in the script.
  • In the script, Martin remembers that the party was to have a Louis XIV theme, but in the show he just says "Louis the French guy".
  • Niles' speech about being pulled into Daphne's room after she leaves is quite different in the script.
  • After Niles says his home spun wisdom has pricked the balloon of Frasier's pomposity, Martin added in the script that why he "got a bum hip, you look for something to pass the time."
  • In the script, Frasier tells Daphne it "was all my fault", whereas in the show he just says "it will never be an issue again".
  • After the adventure with the disposal, Niles tells Frasier "That's enough excitement for one evening," but in the script he says "Well, I'd better get home."
  • After Frasier asks why Maris would be missing Niles if she's not speaking to him, Niles said in the script, "But what fun is it not speaking to someone if they're not there to not speak to?" instead of saying that she "grows weary of being frosty to the help" in the show.
  • In the script, when Frasier goes to put the pills back, he just says "I've got to put them back" - much shorter than what he says in the show!
  • When Frasier "surprises" Daphne in her shower, he says he can explain in the script but that he's so sorry in the show.
  • When Daphne leaves, Niles comments that she's "awfully chipper". Seconds later she adds that she's "going downtown to look at fabrics".
  • When Niles does his "trouble, safe" routine, Frasier says he is "acting like a child, get out of there!"
  • Just before Martin comes in at the end, Frasier tells Niles to "pick it up, pick it up", referring to the laundry.
