27 "The Matchmaker"

Cut Scenes

  • Just before Martin goes back to bed, there was a cut scene where Frasier says, "The very first thing to enter your mind was 'Where's Eddie?'". Martin says that was his second thought - his first thought was to find his pyjama bottoms.
  • After Niles comments about the chocolate shavings, he got out his handkerchief and dabbed his lips. Frasier took it away, saying he would send it "to the lab for analysis." A few seconds later, Niles adds that Cafe Nervosa is "going to hell in a handbasket. What's next? Humorous napkins?"
  • After Roz storms out, Niles tells Frasier not to feel bad. He did the "right thing." Frasier tells Niles that Daphne needs a man who can "do more for her than just sniff her hair!" He then leaves and Niles takes a cigarette stub from the next table and takes a puff.
  • When Tom enters and Frasier apologises about missing the meeting, he says he overslept. In the script Tom says Roz said he had a doctor's appointment. In the show Tom just says "Me too, and I was there."
  • There was a cut scene where Frasier tries to remember the name of the shop he bought his tie in.
  • At the beginning of Act 2 was a short scene where Martin is watching football on the television and is yelling at the players.
  • After Frasier tells Daphne to put on her strapless number, he adds "Trust me, he's worth it." Daphne said she was "so glad there's no pressure" (!).
  • When Niles comes with "Frasier's" book, Frasier said it is Niles' book and Niles says that Frasier should borrow it. Frasier then tells Niles he knows why he is here and it "completely out of line." In the show, Niles just says that Frasier "won't want him around" and then introduces himself to Tom.
  • When Niles goes to help Daphne, Frasier asks Martin "How would you explain Niles?" to which Martin answers "I usually just change the subject."
  • When Martin comes in and asks Niles about Tom and Daphne, in the show Niles just laughs. In the script there is a little scene where Martin asks what is so funny and Niles tells him to "put down those plates and I'll tell you."
  • After Niles tells Frasier that Tom is gay, Frasier says "There's obviously been some misunderstanding," to which Niles replies "Well, there's a triumph of understatement."
  • After Frasier turns off the music, Tom asks him to tell him a bit about himself.
  • After Tom leaves, there was to be a scene where Daphne finds Frasier smoking in the middle of the night, and it turns out she forgave him for the Tom incident.

Major Dialogue Changes

  • Frasier says "Dad, Dad, where are you?" in the first scene. In the show he added, "Where's the fire?"
  • When Eddie comes in with the cigarettes, Frasier said in the script, "I see. No reason at all," just before taking them from him.
  • Daphne's speech about how when she goes out Martin is usually with her is slightly different in the script - and instead of saying people think she's his daughter or girlfriend like in the show, the script says that people think Daphne is Martin's daughter or wife.
  • After Frasier says "Divorced, lonely, living with my father," he added in the script, "who cares less about me than he does about his foul-breathed flea resort of a dog."
  • After Roz tells Frasier he missed the meeting, Frasier asked "Was he insulted?" and Roz replied, "No, I covered for you."
  • When Roz gets her little black book out, in the script Frasier said, "Oh no Roz, that's all right, really." In the show he said, "No, no, Roz, it's really not necessary."
  • After Roz tells them about Sven Bachman, she also adds that "you can bounce a quarter off of...well, just about any part of him!"
  • Roz's tennis coach named Paolo became a tennis instructor named Brick in the show.
  • After the EBS test has finished, Frasier says he'll be right back "after this newsbreak" in the script and "after these messages" in the show.
  • Line not in the script: Frasier says "I'm sorry if I insulted you earlier."
  • Frasier says "Welcome back Seattle" rather than "Hello Seattle, we're back" as he does in the show.
  • Line not in the script: When Tom goes into Roz's booth, he says "Hi Roz," in the show. A few seconds later, Tom tells Frasier that he asked him on a date, and in the script he added "And I accepted."
  • "I didn't even tell Tom you'd be here," in the script became "Tom doesn't even know you'll be here," in the show.
  • After Daphne's speech about being et up, Frasier added in the script, "I think you'll be pleasantly surprised."
  • After Frasier tells Tom that Martin tires to teal his dates, Tom said "You're kidding? He really does that?" in the script.
  • When Daphne takes Tom's coat, in the script she says she's "getting a little flash". In the show this became "I'm picking up a vibration from your coat." Afterwards, when Tom is impressed, she tells him not to get too impressed, as "It comes and it goes."
  • When Martin tells Tom about Duke's and that "a lot of young cops" go there, Tom adds, "That could be fun" in the script.
  • "Would Her Majesty like a bicarbonate?" became "Would Her Majesty care for a Tums?" in the show.
  • Line not in the script: Niles tells Daphne she must be "strapless" after all the cooking.
  • When Frasier comes into the kitchen and tells Niles that "others who might want to have a crack" at Tom", Niles says "Forgive me brother, he's all yours."
  • Instead of "Oh, I think I can arrange that" in the show, in the script Frasier says to Tom "I think that can be arranged."
  • When Martin and Niles leave, a cut line had Niles saying "I can see I'm a third wheel here." Frasier then comments on Niles' change of attitude.
  • Line not in the script: When Niles tells Frasier that Tom is not after Daphne, Frasier says "Damn that Roz!"
  • Whilst Frasier is apologising to Tom, his lines are scripted slightly differently. The differences are very small, but they're there.

Cast/Character Changes

  • Tom Duran is called Tom O'Connor in the script.
