David Lee says |
|
- Lee calls it "one of the great defining scripts for the show. We wanted to see if we could write about Niles and Frasier talking about whether they were happy - and David [Angell] and Peter [Casey] pulled it off." The last episode of the 1st season - unusual, in that most American TV shows opt for cliff-hangers or special guest stars. "This was a big signal to the audience and critics that we were willing to try new things and break the sitcom formula. It was also a signal to us that we could do it. David and Peter also did this episode in real time. Frasier and Niles met at Cafe Nervosa for 22 minutes. There were no artificial act breaks, no excuses to cut to commercial. In fact, when that time came, Niles said 'Will you excuse me, I have to go to the bathroom.'"

Cut Scenes |
|
- After the "1 year since I moved back" speech, Niles says "It's amazing how a man's life can change." Frasier responds with how he moved, got a new job and had Martin move in with him, but what Niles meant was that he and Maris have gone through 3 housekeepers and changed their china pattern.
- A bus drives past Cafe Nervosa with Frasier's face on it, the local kids had added fangs and a beard to it.
- In the show but not the script: Niles wonders why Roz doesn't like him, and then says he barely acknowledges her existence. Frasier responds with "You might be on something there Sherlock!"
- Not in the script: After Martin enters and pretends to be blind, he felt Niles' face before sitting down.
- Instead of the "wet dog" scene in the show, the script had Frasier saying Daphne was only making Martin walk for his own good.
- Daphne asked Frasier and Niles where Martin had gone - in the show, I think he told her during the commercial break (when Frasier was in the bathroom!!!).
- Niles said he often came round to Frasier's house with silly excuses just to see Daphne. Frasier said he'd guessed when Niles "dropped by yesterday to remind us to always buckle our seatbelts.
- Andy Winslow was a Jehovah's Witness in the script - in the show he was just a Christian (no denomination mentioned). In the show Roz decides to go home, tear out the taps and wait for the new handyman to fix them. In the script however, she decides to go and rent a Richard Gere movie where he shows his butt. After Roz leaves, Frasier and Niles discuss religion for a few seconds and say how enlightened they are. Of course when Andy Winslow leaves, they cover their faces to avoid being seen.....
- During Frasier's speech about how he's on his own, Niles tells him to stop being such a pessimist. Talk also gets round to Frasier and Frederick's relationship.
- Not in the script, but in the show: After Daphne says about her psychic flash, she also says something about a raise.

Major Dialogue Changes |
|
- After Frasier and Niles order their coffee (Zimbabwe and Kenya) Frasier said "Something tells me that's the closest we're ever going to come to a safari."
- After Frasier asks about the Zen garden, Niles replied "It's completely authentic," whereas in the show he said "it's beautiful."
- In the script, after Niles said "Really? A year?" he also added "My the time has flown."
- After the brothers go outside and Niles wipes his seat, he says "If there's a God in heaven I'll never find out."
- When the Cranes try to grab a table, there is some dialogue between them, and Frasier says "sorry" to the people who lost the table.
- After the scene where Frasier jokingly says Niles is gay, Niles responded with "Sometimes you're just too flip."
- Just before the argument between Frasier and Martin, Frasier says "Oh no, not this again."
- At the end, after Martin asks Niles what he and Frasier talk about all the time, Niles says "sports, baseball, monster truck rallies" - on the show, he said "sports, chicks, monster truck rallies."
