Published Friday, April 04, 2008 "Morris-based Superior Industries continues to report steady growth. The Private Company Index noticed the trend throughout 2007 and named the manufacturer of conveyor systems and components one of 10 "Top Growth Companies" in the United States for 2008.
According to its Web site, the Entrex Private Company Index is a group of companies in several regions and business sectors and offers the investment community current measurements of private businesses.
The Entrex Private Company Index foundation is based on pretax sales provided on a period by period basis. Each company provides its sales on a routine basis anonymously. The sales data is provided to statisticians who create and overall index, according to the site.
Helping to push Superior�s 18 percent sales growth from 2006 to 2007 was the company�s addition of a new manufacturing facility in Prescott Valley, Arizona. The 30,000 square foot space manufactures equipment for the Southwest U.S. and Mexico markets, the company reported.
The company also credits an upswing in the price of precious metals and commodities. Superior manufactured equipment and conveyor components for several large projects in that industry like Goldcorp�s Pe?asquito Mine in Zacatecas, Mexico and Nord Resource�s Johnson Camp Mine near Tucson, Arizona.
Headquartered in Morris, Superior Industries designs and fabricates a full line of conveying equipment, telescoping conveyors, feed systems, conveyor idlers and pulleys, as well as other conveyor components."

Morris-based WestMor Industries is celebrating the newest addition to its manufacturing facilities.
WestMor’s new Truck Shop will be showcased during a Wednesday, Oct. 10 open house from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The event is free and open to the public. There will be free food and prizes in addition to a tour of WestMor’s facilities.

Tom Zosel, WestMor President and CFO, said he is excited the new facility.
“Our new Truck Shop brings all of us together,” Zosel said. “Centralizing all of our production and materials here will increase our productivity and efficiency. Our employees, their families and the general public, as well as prospective employees, can look at our facilities and see that, not only are we a successful company today, we are poised to continue that success for years to come.”
The new addition adds 45,000 square feet of manufacturing space, 10,000 square feet of warehouse space and a 4,000 square-foot testing facility to WestMor’s property in the Morris Industrial Park.
The new building houses WestMor’s Truck Department where the company produces bobtails, LP & CO2 transports, LP home delivery units and refined fuel trucks for local marketers and some of the nation’s largest energy suppliers. The building also is home to WestMor’s Aviation Department, which manufactures fueling trucks and systems for the nation’s armed forces.
Mike Hennen, WestMor’s Manufacturing Manager, said the design of the new building will make a big difference in productivity.
“Our new shop is specifically designed for what we do,” Hennen said. “We no longer spend hours each week moving one truck or trailer to make room for another. We now have 22 bays allowing us to easily move units through the different stages of production, reducing the costs of our units and thereby increasing our competitiveness. In addition to the 22 bays, we have two downdraft paint booths large enough to paint 55-foot trailers. Our old shop had no overhead cranes; our new shop has six. Not only is this great for efficiency, more importantly it’s also an improvement for safety.”
Safety is a big concern at WestMor, and Bob Griffith, WestMor’s Safety Director, said the new building provides for that.
“It’s great to see our people coming to work every day to a cleaner and safer environment,” he said.
Employees working in the shop agree.
“It’s hard to pick out just one good thing about the new shop,” according to Eric Rose, Production Team Leader. “There are so many improvements. The overhead cranes are great and the heated floor is going to be a nice in the winter. I didn’t think the old shop was that bad, but I was over there the other day and it’s like night and day. The new shop puts us squarely in the 21st century.”
The new building is among several recent improvements at WestMor.
Last year the company expanded its Tank Shop to help meet the current high demand for ethanol tanks.
“Like any successful company we face a lot of competition, and our new facilities give us a competitive edge today and for the future,” Zosel said.
WestMor currently has 115 employees and more than 100 live in the Morris area. WestMor’s employees will be at the Oct. 10 open house to show visitors the new facility."
