U.S.A.: Kansas

I decided to finally make a site on this site this evening (Monday, May 7th of 2007) after a tragic nation-wide news on this sad tornado that wiped this whole town...

  • Stillwater man describes miraculous survival after tornado hits Updated: 05/07/2007 10:44:42 PM

  • "Minutes after a metro man got to Greensburg, Kansas a tornado wiped through the town.
Brad Stauner of Stillwater, said it looks like an atomic bomb hit Greensburg.
"If you've ever seen pictures of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, it's just like that, there's just sticks up in the air," he said.
Stauner managed to drive his truck into town and found a convenience store with a walk- in cooler; he helped two elderly women into it.
Stauner said the tornado sounded like 20 gorillas with baseball bats hitting the outside of the building.
Ten people were killed in the F-5 twister; Stauner said victims were found near the convenience store.
"When I looked up the ceiling was gone, the back wall was gonewe just walked on out, none of us with a scratch on us," Stauner said.
Stauner's still stuck in Greensburg because his truck was destroyed. "

  • "is a Midwestern state in the Central United States. It is named after the Kansas River which flows through it, from the French "Cansez", by explorer tienne de Veniard, Sieur de Bourgmont, and after the Kansa tribe, who inhabited the area.[2] The tribe's name (natively kką:ze) is often said to mean "people of the wind" or "people of the south wind", although this was probably not the term's original meaning.[3][4] Residents of Kansas are called "Kansans."

" Background music by "Keb Mo" A Day at the Lake on Smithville Lake near Kansas City Mo. "A Day at the Lake" is a day for people with spinal cord injuries and other disabilities to have the opportunity to get on the water in the form of boating and skiing. It provides fun and a day of normalcy for these sometimes forgotten folk and proves that they not only are still human but can still get out and have a good time and are intelligent, independent and sometimes stronger and more courageous than you might ever imagine. It is sponsored by Rehabilitation Institute of Kansas City, Warrensburg Cycle, Ameristar Cares, The Kawasaki Corporation, www.kcwheelchair.org, and many wonderful volunteers.
