The BEA(Bureau of Economic Analysis) has recently released 1998 Missouri County data.
A preliminary study of this data shows many rural Missouri counties below the National Per
Capita Income levels.
This data shows the following,
National 1998 Per Capita Income
Average 27203,
Metropolitan 28872, Nonmetropolitan 20478.
Missouri data shows
Average 25150,
Metropolitan 28076, Nonmetropolitan 18949,
by dividing each of the Missouri numbers by the National Metropolitan number the percentage makes
the point. This shows Missouri Counties Per Capita Income
87 percent of the National Average,
97 percent of Metropolitan National Average, and
66 Percent of the Non-Metropolitan Per Capita Income.
by dividing each of the like National values in to the Missouri values you get,
92 percent of Missouri Average vs National Average
97 percent of Missouri Metropolitan vs National Metropolitan
92.5 percent of Missouri Nonmetropolitan vs National Metropolitan
If you have marketable skills and move from a rural Missouri area to a Metropolitan Missouri area
you should be able to get a 48 percent increase in income, or a 52 percent increase if you move to a
more prosperous state.
You must remember that it is not what you make, but what you have left over after taxes,
Federal, State, county Schools, City. . . etc. Don't be fooled by a low or no state taxes. Those states
do get taxes from you, and from many sources.
Your skills and your accomplishments is your ticket to prosperity, and the American Dream.

"I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors
of the people under the pretense of taking care of them."
