Beverly Hills, CA - The experiment begins. How do you find work without knowing anyone? Cold calling and being there to make interviews. I knew that I would have to come to LA to see if I could make it in LA. It meant giving up paying work in St. Louis and a shoot in Colorado. So the experiment begins. I drove from Fort Collins to LA in three days. I met my parents who flew into Las Vegas and hung out with them for a few days in LA. They left Sunday (yesterday) for Las Vegas leaving me in LA without a place to stay. I had been in negotiations with a place in Westwood, which just didn't work out. By Sunday night, (last night) I had found a place in Beverly Hills and moved in. The search for work continues. The Adventure Today, I gave an ear-full to the Beverly Hills Department of Transportation for how badly they run the street parking system.

And I recieved a $65 LA parking ticket for parking behind a large SUV which, after I went in to the building, moved to reveal a "No parking from 4-6pm" sign. - It was 4:23 when I walked out to find the officer ticketing my car. The Lingering Questions (dum dum dumm) -Will Megan find work in LA? -Will Megan survive the LA drivers and parking systems? -Will Megan come out finacially ahead or behind? -Will Megan pick-up and move to LA in December after graduation, or will the city scare her back to the Midwest? For all of the exciting details, stay tuned to this website for the latest updates!

On Day 3 my alarm didn't go off and I got my second parking ticket because I didn't move my car in time. I haven't accomplished much since then. I went for a walk this morning on Rodeo Drive and stopped into some coffee shops. I would like to hit the beach tomorrow and find a job.

Explored housing options from 8-noon and landed an interview and a tv show taping. The interview is tomorrow at 10am for an intern (no pay) position at a tv something. I went and saw Dennis Miller that taped from 6pm-730 and then I got lost in Burbank. I ended up at the Improv west on Hollywood Blvd for their 10pm show. It's 12:51am and my car must be moved before 9am because of street cleaning.

Finding work has been difficult. I am working on a film as an AC and I've been an extra twice. I am past my original move out date of the first house, and I will be forced to move out Monday. I can't lose. I'm finding another place or I'm driving to Idaho to work on Spud Fest. spudfest.org. I am producing a film called Sacking Evil and I am seeking crew in St. Louis. I am also talking with an LA Director of Photograpy about becoming a Producer for his new production company. If I leave this coming Monday the experiment has still been a success, because I believe whole heartedly that in November I will have work lined up somewhere for December and that I won't be stressed about it. LA is beginning to feel like home. I guess that happens if you live somewhere for long enough. I will miss being here I'm sure. (As soon as I leave they will call me to work, I guarantee it.) While I was here, I recieved two calls to work in St. Louis. :-)

Sent emails to potential jobs: 55 Jobs that responded to me: 7 Those that might work out: 2 The rule is 20 no's to one yes, so I am not doing that badly. Finding work that will pay without being in the union is really hard. I called both of the Union offices Grip/Electric in LA and the answer is the same: Getting in the Union is a catch 22; you must get 30 Union days, to do that you must be in the union (or be on something that gets orgainzed after you sign on.) Therefore, picking a non-union shoot to work is like spinning the roulete-wheel and praying it comes up union. Union, only because it is the only chance I have of getting paid enough to make a full-time living in this industry.

| I have been living in Idaho for over a week and a half working on Spud Fest. (www.spudfest.org). I will be returning to Colorado in 2 days and a few days | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
later I'll drive to Missouri. I really miss LA. It was a success being there, and I can see myself moving there to work after college.
