It's July 15th, 2004. 2 girls are sitting in a field on a deserted speedway full of empty vehicles looking miserable and tired. Suddenley, the dark grey clouds in the sky open up, and it starts raining. "Fantastic", one says to the other. The pouring rain drives away the mosquitos that were previously driving them nuts, as the two of them struggle to cover themselves, one recopgnizes a song off in the distance. It was perfect, like someone had turned on a CD player. She starts singing as loud as she can along with the song she recognizes as Yellowcard's Only One. Off in the distance, 500 or so kids are singing the same song in the crowd, at the 10th Anniversary Vans Warped Tour.
"Atleast we got to see Nofx." I said to my sister. In the 2 hours following that song, 2 other people who came with us stumble up, it's still raining, and a loud speaker announces there is a tornado warning. We all huddled under the tiny Cavalier as far as we could, waiting for the final person to arrive, who luckily enough, had the keys. Another hous passes, and she finally shows up, after Taking Back Sunday's show had been cancelled due to the rain. The second we scrambled into the car, golf ball sized hail pounded out of the sky. Police shut down the road, and we waited another hour, freezing cold in the car. Even though it sucked big time in my t-shirt and capris, sitting in that field singing Only One in the rain is by far my favorite memory of my summer, and the Warped Tour.
