I discovered the Clash a few weeks ago while on the phone with my friend Leask. Now Leask is an interesting individual. She doesn't listen to Punk rock, but is a complete anarchist. If someone tells her to do something, no matter how easy, or hard it is, the answer is always "Fuck you." She was sent to the office last year in foods class when she made a huge mess, and upon being asked to clean it up, she replied "You fucking clean it up." So how we discovered the Clash was one night we were planning a get together between me and all our friends, and Leask and I were coming up with sleazy 80's songs. "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor, "You Spin me Right Round Baby" by Dead or Alive and anything by Guns 'N' Roses is an example of what we were looking for. Leask suggested Spanish Bombs by the Clash even though it wasn't 80's because it made her happy. We downloaded it, and ever since then I have been a huge fan. I bought their record London Calling, and I love every song that I've heard so far. So, when looking for sleazy 80's music, one comes across some of the best bands in the history of punk rock. Threat magazine rated The Clash's self titled 1977 debut as the number 3 Punk Rock Record of all time. Pick it up.... actually, I haven't bought that record yet, so I recommend London Calling.
