PSYCLOPS
PLOT-An amateur filmmaker geek discovers an old machine that opens the door to another dimension.
VIOLENCE-Gross little stop-motion animated creatures eat up human flesh and burrow into it.
SEX/NUDITY-A couple *blink and you'll miss it* breast shots from the 2 main actresses, plus a lengthy striptease scene (with full nudity) when the actors watch an adult video.
WHY I WATCHED IT-This is one of those movies I kept walking past at the video store, but eventually broke down and rented it. That cover art is just freaky as hell. Plus, the plot sounded similar to one of my favorite movies, FROM BEYOND.
THE DOPE-Once it gets going, this movie is actually pretty cool. It has definite shades of FROM BEYOND, which doesn't bother me in the least. The weird old machine gets turned on, and oddball pink lighting effects come out, complete with little creatures that are deadly. And like Dr. Pretorius, the guy becomes obsessed with making the machine work, ultimately becomes physically transformed by it, and ends up the villain of the movie. And similar to the film LASERBLAST, the guy gets a video camera grafted to his face by the machine. Pretty whacked-out idea. I admit, I fast-forwarded here and there to get to the "good parts" when I initially watched the film, but by the end I was totally gripped. I liked this movie, and I can't tell you how happy I was to see so much FROM BEYOND influence. Kick ass.
MEMORABLE SCENES-Former SEDUCTION CINEMA actor Katie Jordon has an odd but memorable role in this film. In a scene where some characters are going through a box of old videotapes & wathcing what's on them, Katie shows up in what's supposed to look like a home-made porn flick. All she does is take her clothes off, but it was quite unexpected to see her there. Generally you don't find SC actors popping up in other people's movies.
DVD NOTES-The disc contained one deleted scene, which is a good one if you like cute little doggies. And no, nothing bad happens to the dog. I hate when they kill dogs in movies, don't you?
