GOTH
PLOT-A twentysomething "goth" couple are taken on a twisted ride with a death-obsessed woman.
VIOLENCE-Throats are slashed, multiple stabbings, and a word is carved into someone's chest LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT style.
SEX/NUDITY-At least four women are shown topless, and there's one sex scene, but no nudity from the two female leads is shown.
WHY I WATCHED IT-I'm a big fan of Brain Damage Films, and of their star performer Phoebe Dollar. She hasn't had a big role since HELL'S HIGHWAY, so I was eagerly anticipating GOTH.
THE DOPE-This movie has a great concept. You take a couple goth kids who think they're hot shit, and throw in Phoebe Dollar as the title character, "Goth", a truly freaky chick who knows the true meaning of darkness and death. I always wondered what one of those S&M fetishists would do if they were faced with someone really fucked up, someone who really liked to go over the edge. That's why the plot of GOTH is so interesting, but the key to this movie is Phoebe's expert performance. She's got a bizarre energy, and a look in her eyes that is truly wicked. She totally becomes this person, and you believe her, you're on the ride. That's the most you can ask from any actor in my opinion, and Phoebe is a total pro. I recommend this film to fans of hers, and to those who've never heard of her. You will be entertained. But I just have one question: who the hell was driving that van?
MEMORABLE SCENES-Phoebe saves two people in an alley by beating up a would-be mugger. She administers what I recognized as a true southern-style ass stomping. Hey, I'm from Georgia, I know the real thing when I see it.
NOTES-The extras on this disc are fantastic, I was definitely impressed. There's commentary by director Brad Sykes, interviews with cast and crew, a photo gallery, lengthy making-of feature, and some truly funny outtakes. This is a good DVD to check out if you're interested in how low-budget films are made, as the extras provide a wealth of useful information.
