EVIL TOONS PLOT-Four women, hired to clean up an old creepy house, unleash an ancient cartoon demon. VIOLENCE-Nothing really gory. People do die, but not much is shown. Just a few drops of blood here and there. It's a comedy, dammit! SEX/NUDITY-As with most movies that have a "slumber party" atmosphere, we're treated to a few scenes of girls dancing naked and/or running around half-clothed. Monique Gabrielle (who walked around nude in public for a segment of the film AMAZON WOMEN ON THE MOON) plays the token shy girl/nerd, and has a lengthy topless scene in front of a mirror. WHY I LIKED IT- The film doesn't take itself seriously, and is extremely fun to watch as a result. As with other Fred Olen Ray movies, it's chock full of intentionally bad jokes and cheeseball dialogue. When you're dealing with a low budget, it's best to keep your action confined to as few settings as possible, and this film makes the best of what it has. Most of the movie takes place in the house in which the girls are spending the night.
DOWNSIDE-The title is somewhat misleading, unfortunately. The demon that is unleashed from the ancient book is an animated tasmanian devil look-alike, but it has very little screen time. It quickly posesses the body of one of the girls, and is rarely seen at all. I'm not sure if they just ran out of time or didn't want to do much animation, but they should've at least changed the title of the movie. Admittedly, I was expecting a B-movie version of WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT at first. MEMORABLE SCENES- In a very cool cameo sequence, B-veteran actor Dick Miller is shown watching television at his home. And who plays his sex-crazed wife? None other than Michelle Bauer, and she even manages to get naked! NOTES-Other B-actors who show up in cameos are David Carradine and Arte Johnson. Also, horror writer Chas Balun is credited for having designed the animated demon.
