SEXY AMERICAN IDLE
PLOT-A parody of the reality TV series "American Idol".
VIOLENCE-One guy vomits blood, and a gorrilla rips a couple people's arms off (all played for laughs of course).
SEX/NUDITY-Pretty much every female cast member is shown topless and/or completely naked and/or having softy sex.
WHY I WATCHED IT-At one point in time, Seduction Cinema was producing their patented "Erotic Parodies" at breakneck pace, including such classics as EROTIC WITCH PROJECT, PLAYMATE OF THE APES, GLADIATOR EROTICUS, LORD OF THE G-STRINGS and EROTIC SURVIVOR. I bought them all, loved them all, and praised them all in reviews on this site. I'm always game for a movie like this.
THE DOPE-One major flaw with Seduction Cinema's previous parody films was that the comedy would always come to a grinding halt when the sex scenes began. They generate this great comic energy, and then hit the 'hold' button for a couple minutes while the ladies disrobed and licked each other. This is one of the things that the makers of SEXY AMERICAN IDLE saw fit to change, and one of the many reasons why I consider it to be the single funniest film the company has ever produced. The jokes do not stop when the clothes come off, and I found myself laughing out loud several times, mostly due to giddy surprise at what I was seeing. Seduction Cinema finally shocked me! They have always been funny...but this stuff is genius.
It comes as no surprise that IDLE was written by two of SC's best comic performers, John Fedele and Julian Wells. In past roles, both have displayed their own unique, energized styles that are decidely over-the-top, and the combination of the two in this film proves to be lethal. Granted, they are supported by an excellent cast of many of SC's best (Misty Mundae, Kimbo, Justen Wigenfeld, Darian Caine, AJ Khan, John Link, and a wonderfully spot-on Anoushka), but Fedle and Wells take on multiple roles and are completely hysterical in each. Fedele reprises his burnout rock star character from his previous directorial effort TITANIC 2000, only this time with more Ozzy added in. At one point he tries to do an interview, but keeps puking blood!
As far as being a parody of the real AMERICAN IDOL goes, I can't really say how well they do it because I am probably one of the only people in the country who has never watched the show (I've never seen SURVIVOR either). However, for Seduction Cinema fans, the cavalcade of horrid singers and bad "Gong Show" caliber stage acts is a hell of a lot of fun to watch. Just about everyone who's been funny in a past SC flick shows up (sadly no Michael R. Thomas or Tina Krause though) to do some goofy shit, including Misty Mundae who is actually a great singer in real life (and watch for her guitar playing skills in the deleted scenes). Even Kimbo the gorrilla is back, flinging dookie and dancing like a mad bastard! I loved it.
Congratulations are in order for all the people at E.I. Indpependent who made this movie happen...it has claimed the throne as Seduction Cinema's funniest film ever. SEXY AMERICAN IDLE is non-stop, wall-to-wall comic perfection, and it put a big smile on my face.
MEMORABLE SCENES-Julian Wells is most certainly the breakout performer in this film, going for the gusto in every scene and generating the most laughs. I was astonished at the her total lack of inhibition and how she is more than happy to do ANYTHING to push the jokes to the extreme. Frankly, I have never seen anyone do what Julian Wells does in this movie with such ferocity and glee, and I hope this isn't the last time she does it. Having already proven her dramatic chops in films like SIN SISTERS and MISTRESS HYDE, her quirky performance as the villain in SPIDERBABE was merely a hint at what was to come. In SEXY AMERICAN IDLE, Julian Wells sets the bar very high as far as female comic performances go, and once you see her as "Burn Girl", you'll forget all about Charlize Theron's oscar-winning transformation in MONSTER.
DVD NOTES-The 2-disc collectors' edition is actually a 3-disc set: there's a coupon inside to send away for a copy of the "unrated" version (which runs 4 minutes longer and has more sex). The sountrack CD features 46 tracks of incidental music, several bits of dialogue from the movie, and even a few of the (purposely retarded) performances. The sound mix here is actually superior to what you'll hear in the film itself.
Also worth mentioning is the huge amount of worthwhile deleted scenes in the extras section. Usually deleted scenes consist of things that slowed the film down or didn't quite work, but in this case I think these were cut for time reasons, because they certainly are funny as hell.
