This all started two years ago this May. My mother has always had the dream of having her own Koi pond in the back yard......so being the nice family that we are, we got her a small two-tiered with fountain for the back yard for Mother's Day. Needless to say, we created a monster.....
The finished pond! This is about two weeks after we had the pond in the ground...
Another picture taken at the same time. You can tell it's early in the season; the plants haven't taken over yet! I will be getting more pictures up with the plants looking beautiful...
Close up of the spout. This was probably one of the hardest parts...trying to find the right accent to fit in with the surroundings. I guess you could say this guy 'jumped' out at us... I'm in Iowa, I reserve the right to be corny....
Little Girl doesn't understand that the pond is to look at and enjoy....Well, I guess she is enjoying a cool drink.
Koi ponds & Iowa winters don't mix too well....so.....
THEY INVADE THE HOUSE!!!
The two big guys are our only surviving REAL Koi... We bought what we thought were Koi but turned out to be fancy goldfish...at koi prices.  We still have a few of the fancies....
HINT: DO YOUR HOMEWORK!
Some of the various goldfish that summer in the pond and winter in the house.  The 8 and 10 inch  goldfish?  Twelve cent feeder fish bought from a local pet store and he haven't lost a one.
Growing like weeds, we won't be able to have all our fish in the pond this summer...they are permanent residents now.
We were upset that these were the only two koi to survive....but since they are both over 20 inches now, two is all we have room for!
