| SUMMER READING AND MATH PACKETS? |
| I mean really what the hell is this? Homework over the summer, whats going on? I mean we go to school have homework all year. Some teachers give it everyday and if your lucky you only get one that gives it everyday but if not you have a whole bunch of homework. Then we finally get out of school for a much need R&R and they decide to give us math packets and Summer reading? There reason for giving us this crap is so that we can "stay sharp over the summer" and not forget what we've learned in the year past. But doing a few math problems doesnt keep kids " Sharp". For me I did the packet in the first 4 weeks of summer and I was already forgetting what half of the problems were talking about. Pathagerrian Theriums and Perpendicular Bisectors, I was confused during the year in school by this and we had a teacher there. They expect me to be able to remember over the summer, and complete the packet and with no help. And of coarse on the front page of the packet there is in big, bold print, DO NOT USE A CALCULATOR!. LOL yeah... First of all thats going to work about as good as a no trespassing sign. (NOT GOOD) just making sure u knew what I meant. Seriously if you ask people I bet everyone either used a calculator or paid someone to do it for them. I mean you have to show your work anyway so why not use a calculator. Its not like in real life theres not going to be calculators. I mean sure theres going to be times when theres not a calculators but by the time we grow up theres going to be computers anyway and what is a computer with out that little icon in the accessories bar called the what? CALCULATOR yeah!! Not like the math packet is that hard its more of an annoyance than anything. Like I understand why you have to show your work (so that if u get a problem wrong they can see what you did wrong) but come on theres 30 pages with like 20 problems on each page (thats 600 problems (I didnt get dull over the summer I'm sharp as a tack) and if you ask me that about 500 problems where you didnt need to show your work. They should only make you show your work for the first two or three so they no that you understand how to do it. Even if you get it wrong you still no what you are doing you just added something wrong or miscalculated and it shouldnt matter. As long as you get the main idea about whats going on they shouldnt care about showing the work. AND NOW TO SUMMER READING. ?!The schools reason for giving us summer reading is so our reading skill doesnt Deteriorate over the summer. All they have to do is make us buy a movie and you will See my logic behind this in a second. If they make everyone buy (or rent) a poorly Made Japanese movie like Return of the Dragon or some other movie that has Subtitles that would give us some entertainment as well as make us read for a few Hours and they could give us like three movies or something. Or they could make us buy Final Fantasy 7-9 and beat the game. That whole Game has sub-titles and that would be reading. And even that would work on our Strategy and quick thinking. But that along with all other plans would soon become annoying and you will find a Page about having to do the "stupid summer videos" so either way you really lose but I Would rather do it my way. (Obviously or why would I be writing about it) I think this is Seriously a pretty good idea and I'm surprised that I could come up with it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- With 2 days left till school starts and my math packet done i was finishing up my summer reading and i realized that i still had another book. I heard it was good but really confusing and i just didnt feel like reading it. So of coarse i didnt which wasnt the smartest thing to do but at least i went to sparknotes.com and got the cliff notes. Plus i dont have english till 2nd half but i still dont wanna read it. Its funny how they gave me 2 books and each is like only 110 pages and i dont feel like doin it. This is another thing i take for granted( if you havent read my other page) i should be glad there not making me read "A TALE OF TWO CITYS" which is actually really cool but totally too long. i dono no ill write more later o yeah , i was arguing with ed the other day and he was telling me that summer reading was to help us decipher plot and stuff like that and work on our comprehention skills and stuff. At least thats what i think he said and yeah there also good reasons too but i still think there annoying as shit and yeah Today i realized that tommorrow ( jan 31) was my first day of english and i still hadnt done the summer reading, you were supposed to take notes and i didnt , i read the one book (kinda) anyway so i was in a jam and i though of a plan, so with no time wasted i imed everyone in my grade that i had on my buddylist and asked if they had typed their notes so they could email them to me. no luck and i got to one of the last people and they said no, but i've got something better. They saved my life yesterday, WWW.PINKMONKEY.com (free printable notes, chapter summary's, character annalysis's, plot, setting anything you could ask for right there. So i printed it out and highlighted the important parts and its all good. i did learn something from this, no no not that you should do your summer reading, but that you should cheat and go to www.PINKMONKEY.com and print the summaries. THANKS MURANDA, you rock. i just thought i would pass along the knowladge i had aquired and possibley help out someone at sometime THIS PAGE IS DETICATED TO ED Keep on arguing |
