Ahhh...the days of yore. Knights, damsels, magic, giant pig monsters...hello, and welcome to the world of Young Merlin.
Background Story
So, a young Merlin, hence the title, is just chillin' in front of his crib, yo...ahem, well anyway, he's just minding his own business when suddenly, he hears the screams of a woman drowning in the nearby river. Being the time of chivalry, Merlin rushes to save the young lady, gets caught in the riptide, and is washed ashore in some faraway land downstream with the damsel nowhere in sight. Some hero...
So, you wake up next to a pond after your failed rescue attempt. However, there is a hefty Purple Gem next to you. Walk over to it to pick it up. With nowhere else to go, cross the bridge next to you. By now, you should be seeing little thought bubbles saying "Y". "Y!!". To get rid of these, you of course need to do the wizardly thing and press Y, preferably at the bridge. Since the Purple Gem is the only item you have, it'll be tossed in (bye bye money...). But, you do get a light show in return, plus a Yellow Star appears. Pick that up and now you have a weapon worthy of a hero, or at least a small-time fairy...
From here, the thought bubbles will easily lead you to the upper right. Don't try messing with the Pirahna Plants to the lower right just yet. You'll come across an evil-looking tree. No one likes those, so kindly shoot it to death. Thank you. Meanies will pop out and run away. Behind the tree will be a Bottle and a Orange Gem. Following the thought bubbles, go back to the pond, use the L/R buttons to cycle through your inventory to the Gem, and chuck it in. Another light show, another item, you get the pattern. Pick the musty-looking bag, which is filled with an infinite supply of Freeze Dust. Also, notice the Bottle sign next to the pond. Now, notice your Bottle. Hmmm... Use Y to fill'er up with some yummy Rainbow Water. Now, Freeze those Pirahna Plants and smash 'em good. Actually, run across while you can; the Dust doesn't last long. Continue to the right. You'll hear some oinks. Just some Pigmen. No biggie. For now, keep going right to the spring with another Bottle sign. Chug your Rainbow Water (fruity!) and fill it with Clear Water, which is more effective at refilling Hearts. Don't forget to pick that lovely Tulip you espy to the right. For now, it looks pretty, but it'll be useful later...
Go down, down, past the Pigmen. Freeze and shoot them if you wish. At the bottom of the open space and to the right will be a Heart Container. Snag it for an extra Heart, and then go west, young man. You'll come to a narrow pass and sinister music will play, almost as if you had to fight a Boss around now. The Giant Pig blocking your path might also be a clue. He'll throw a Boomerang Axe at you every 2 seconds or so. Bob and weave out of its path and edge closer until you can smell the slop he had for breakfast. Now, do a quick Freeze/Shoot combo (you Freeze him, you shoot him, repeat as necessary) until he's bacon bits. A mini-clip will commence showing you of a nearby fairy getting her reflection stolen by some aptly-named Meanies. Remember where it happens so you can get there later. After the clip, the Lady of the Lake gives you a password. However, you don't get anything from beating up the Giant Pig. What a gyp! Why, that greedy...um...what's the word I'm looking for?
