Comments from Sandra Chang, Long Time Student

Sandra Chang is a freelance artist and long time student and 2nd degree blackbelt in Ju Jitsu of Sensei Leo.

"I first began my training with Sensei Leo 9 years ago. All my life, I was never physically active, I had two left feet and had absolutely no coordination. I loved watching Hong Kong Martial Arts movies and knew I wanted to be able to do some of those amazing feats. I took a Ju Jitsu class at the YMCA where Sensei Leo was helping out Shihan Robert Wong. I had trouble following the demonstrations and Sensei Leo worked with me until I could do the simpliest of moves. He showed me how I could use my mere 105 lbs (I weigh more than that now) to move an opponent 175 lbs and more.

"After learning to use my body weight and the opponent's momentum and hearing the thump of larger bodies hitting the floor, I was hooked! I've been with Sensei Leo ever since. He makes everything more dynamic and interesting, when you think you have achieved something, he throws you a curve ball, and makes you realize how much further you need to learn. He has an uncanny way of applying physics when you don't understand, and gives you a fresh perspective so you can comprehend. You never feel criticism under his tutelage and he always emphasizes your strong points to build your self esteem and enthusiasm. I've met many martial arts instructors in my life, and I have to wholeheartedly exclaim that Sensei Leo Byrd is the most unique and best teacher I have ever met. The lessons I've learned with Sensei Leo have tremondeously helped me in my life and my art. I have not only become a healthy strong individual (that can protect myself), but I have the confidence and self assurance to know that anything is possible. Thank you, Sensei, for enriching my life!"
