Simon's Thoughts

Bonsai Dave:

I personally want to thank Sue for looking after my mate Dave over these last few months…Thank you Sue.

I first met Dave in ‘88 where we became instant buddies, we seemed to just hit it off

We would chat for hours and hours …..and back then I thought this guy was pretty special and a great listener………………………….there was a definite connection.

Soon after Dave and I met we became Snooker buddies…in fact we became snooker fanatics (I think also John caught the snooker bug too) and that’s all we ever did for the first few years after meeting, in total we must have been playing snooker (on and off) for the last 15 Years….The funny thing was that Dave only beat me twice in 15 years …during this time I was always amazed by Dave, as he never gave up – he practiced and practiced to perfect the game he loved..….even writing things on his wall at home………….There’s a phrase that sticks in my mind – that just sums Little Dave up:

Its not the size of the DOG in the fight,…rather than the size of the FIGHT in the dog

He was to show this quality in everything he did....Snooker, his bonsai business, mountain biking, golf and just recently in what was to be his toughest fight……..lets remind ourselves that that this fight started off back in 1995.!

My Feeling is we are very fortunate that Dave fought as long as he did…………….as he saw his family grow, chance to meet new friends, attended weddings and so on………and for me personally he had a chance to meet my wife Melanie and join in on our Wedding – that meant a lot to me.

Dave touched a lot of people in his short (but full) life and I know that he would want us to keep fighting too.

It’s fair to say a little piece of me will leave with Bonsai Dave today…………and when people ask me if I am going to miss Dave……my answer will be no…….because a bigger piece of him has stayed with me………..

My way of dealing with the loss is to not forget about Dave, but to remember him as …..…Bonsai Dave…… my snooker buddy.. ….my best friend…. and most of all……………………………….my soul mate.

One final thing………………..Keep Practicing Dave….
