Week One Comments

   In week one, a basic foundation was established for how we think and consider art. The flow chart by Alfred Barr demonstrated the assumptions and categorizations made of art movements into so-called "isms."

   The Arthur Danto article helped me to understand the Reality theory vs. the Imitation theory and the philosophical nature of the highly abstract term "art."

   The question of what is considered art was asked and what the proper context for art. Works such as Warhol's Brillo Boxes might not considered art otherwise.

   Art movements historically often had difficulty due to prejudices within the art community, muchl like the history of science.
