We ended the course with a discussion on the extremely fascinating artist Gustav Klimt. Klimt was the president Vienna Secession, and his originality and modernity embodied the ideals of the Secession to strive for the sake of art, not for commercial drive like their parent organization the Kunstlerhaus. Housed in the Vienna Secession Building, the exhibition walls were covered with Klimt's powerfully symbolic Battlement Frieze.
After a brief touch on Edvard Munch, the unsung Norwegian artist, the course ended unceremoniously. I would just like to say that I enjoyed the course overall, it was a delight to learn about artists other than the French.
