Awfully Short for the Fourth Grade
by Elvira Woodruff
Have you ever wished to be part of your toys? Have you ever imagined being the size of your toys and your toys alive, too?
Nine year old Noah Murphy doesn't have to imagine in the book
Awfully Short for the Fourth Grade. Noah Murphy loves to carry around his "little men." One day Noah is on the school bus when he takes out the "magic powder" he got from a gumball machine at the store. He sprinkles it on his little men and wishes, "make my men come alive and me the size of them so we can have an adventure together." Suddenly the bus hits a bump. When Noah opens his eyes, he's as small as his men and his men are moving! When they finally get to school, Noah and his men are dropped off at the fourth grade classroom by Noah's little brother, Jess.
Together, Noah and his men have a lot of fun and one big adventure! To find out if they dodge all those feet and if Noah returns to his regular size read

Here's some fun with fractions and pizza:

We ordered two large pizzas. One with cheese and one with veggies. Dad ate 1/3 of the cheese pizza and 1/6 of the veggie. Nicholas ate 1/4 of the veggie and 1/12 of the cheese. Gabrielle ate 1/12 of the cheese and 1/12 of the veggie. Mom ate 1/3 of the veggie and none of the cheese.
How much of each pizza is left?
Answer to December's challenge:   57.6 or 57.7 miles per hour (depending on when you rounded)
We traveled for a total of 3 hours and 26 minutes (that's from 12:34PM to 4:45PM minus the 45 minutes we stopped to have lunch) We drove a total of 198 miles (393.1 - 195.1). To find out our average speed, divide the miles (198) by the time we spent traveling (206 minutes) which gives you how fast we traveled each minute. Last you have to multiply by 60 because there are 60 minutes in one hour and you find out how many miles per hour we averaged. (P.S. It was snowing hard when we drove through Virginia - and my
dad was driving!)
