| So, on to the show. We had great seats, 8th row dead center. I had caught a peak at the typed setlist before the show and was expecting Can't Lose What You Never Had to open, so Hot 'Lanta was a surprise. I was amazed at how mellow the crowd was, especially in the 7 rows in front of us. We were on our feet most of the time, but until the encore no one in front of us stood up even once. That's probably why the show felt a little mellow at the start, but it was well-played. I keyed on Derek most of the time, but Warren was getting his licks in as well and seemed to be having a ball. By the time they got to Rocking Horse they were ready to explode, and Derek went off like the Guns of the Navarone. He just wouldn't let it go until he finally ran out of breath and had to come out. Gambler's Roll was amazing, Warren was on fire. Into the Mystic was probably the best I've heard them do. Statesboro was Derek on the lead slide, in fact I don't think Warren used a slide once all night. I was hoping for Liz Reed over Instrumental Illness, but the band was going off and I was not disappointed. During drums, Butch came up to Oteil's mic and, accompanied by Jaimoe's daughters, led the audience in a "Happy Birthday" for Jaimoe. Jessica was a big surprise and was easily the highlight of the show for me, it was out of this world and a solid 17 minutes long (during his solo, Warren ammed out Happy Birthday for Jaimoe and also did a nice Will The Circle Be Unbroken jam). After the show I got a better look at the typed setlist they had on stage...Jessica was a change, seemingly on the fly, from One Way Out (there was lots of band discussion before Illness and I think this is when they made the change). As I said, the opener on the setlist was Can't Loose What You Never Had, and Gambler's Roll took the place of High Cost Of Low Living. I bought the instant live, sounds great! After the show Lisa used Jay's backstage pass so we could go back and I would see if the original 3 would sign my CD liner. Gregg was signing a few things so I waited my turn but before he got to me he got distracted and walked into his dressing and shut the door. So with that, we called it a night and headed out to the parking lot. All in all, a great show, I would rank it in the top 2 or 3 I have seen. They proved once again that ABB is the best damn band in the world! |
