Humanism – 2 Tim. 3: 1-9
- All the stuff here is the true definition of humanism.
- The last sentence that describes the humanistic ways says, “…lovers
of pleasure rather tan lovers of God.” This is like the essence of this
lesson. We should love God above all else and everything of the world will
just fall into place.
- The vaccine for Humanism v. 5 - “having a form of godliness
but denying its power.” Don’t deny godliness in your life…starve the temptation
not your relationship with God. Live in God, let everything you do glorify
God. Pray and pray often, and last do your quiet times in the morning,
there is no better way to start off a day!
Without God in our lives we would be humanistic. The power of God is always available, we as humans just often don’t care or forget about it. If you’re truly seeking God and His power, you will find them.
Righteousness – 1 John 1:5-7
- God is the light, without the light there is darkness, in darkness
there is confusion, ignorance and always the threat of “falling down.”
- There is no downside to God, life is stable, exciting in God’s will.
- Walk in Gold, don’t stand, God moves, we should follow but we often
do not. We are then left in darkness again.
- Not one single person is truly righteous.
- Righteousness comes through faith; our sins are justified by His
grace.
- Spiritual Righteousness – Righteousness apart from the law, not questioning
God when He tells you do something is an example of being spiritually righteous.
Satisfaction v. Fun/Pleasure – Proverbs 21:17
- Fun or pleasure won’t last. It’s there and gone. Solomon says a fun
addict will become poor. Life isn’t a game. (A kid who uses all of his
allowance at Hollywood Connection playing arcade games has a lot of fun
but when its over, what does he have to show for it?) It’s always okay
to have fun but when your life revolves around it we have a problem.
- Ecclesiastes 7:4 – “wisdom is in morning, foolishness is in the house
of pleasure.”
Isaiah 53:11
- “Light of life” is Jesus’ resurrection prophesized.
- Satisfaction is forever, it is the feeling of waking up day after
day and truly being able to say “life is good”…. we get this awesome feeling
through Jesus, no one/where else.
- Suffering will be made to satisfaction
- Humanistic wisdom v. Godly wisdom (we want to have fun, God/Jesus
always strived to be a better man.)
Life through the spirit – Romans 8
- Life (true life) comes from living in the spirit: this is the #1
way to defeat temptation. Don not put your mind on things of this world
for that is all meaningless (Ecc. 1:18). “Feeding” the Holy Spirit will
create the satisfaction in your life. Keeping up in our relationship though
Christ Jesus does this. Humanistic desires v. Spirit’s desires – mindset
is one or the other not both or in-between. Submit to God. Starve the sinful
nature. Your body is dead to sin; your spirit is alive to righteousness
v.10. True life is found in accordance with the spirit.
Plan of Righteousness –
- Realize you are a sinner
- Recognize your faults in Humanism
- Know God’s plan is greater than yours
- Submit fully to God, be willing to do or go anywhere.
- Have faith even when it is tested to the last bit, always have faith
in God’s will.
- Repent immediately if you mess up, we all do, and pint out your fault
to God.
- Feed the Spirit – T.A.W.G. (Time Alone With God), spend time in prayer
- Remove yourself from the world, if you don’t think it’ll please God,
don’t do it.
- Be willing to accept anything God throws your way, use it to His
glory
- Be JOYFUL! =-) Take the joy God’s blessed us with and give it to
the world.
- Fulfill your call to the Great Commission, spread the world of Jesus
to “pre-Christians”, that’s what we’re here for.
Show the Love that was first shown to us!!!
