Killing Time - ( Violence, Dark Humor )     1996
Sort of a female 'James Bond', a slick, no-nonsense, professional mercenary / assassin - from Italy is called in to London to 'knock-off' a major crime boss - so that some lower life scum can take over the 'club'.  The scum offer several 100s of thousands of dollars for the deed - and she is supposed to be a top professional - - -  Once the deed is done the low life's just need to knock her off and save their money.  Easier said than done - - -  she is a professional after all.

Love & a 45 - A lovable young thug - used to knocking over Quicky-Stop
Groceries and Mom & Pop Drug Stores gets in deeper (Much Deeper)
than he planned.  Mobsters start pressuring him for the pay-back on a
$2,000 loan;  His 'wacked-out' buddy kills somebody.  He stabbs his
'buddy' (not mortally).  After his girlfriend kills two sadistic State Patrolmen,
he and the girl begin a trek to Mexico.  And so . . .    the Law is after him,
the mob is after him, and his buddy is after him.  The body count is pretty
high, the violence is very intense, the realism (gore) is quite real and the
director's intensity is palpable.  A tense, thriller with an intelligent and
       exciting and 'odd-ball' story line.

Mountains of the Moon - This 1990, 4 star film depicting 2 British
explorers in the Victorian/colonization era in deepest Africa making attempt
after attempt to discover the headwaters of the Nile river is really a 'must
see' for anyone enjoying stories based on real people and true events.
Two of the elements in this movie that lift it above many others is:
One - the real life depiction of the bizarre siturations the adventurers find
themselves in;  the life threatening tribes, and also their 'mind over body' -
will-to-survive when left with no food or water.
Two - The remarkable differences in the two explorer's personality's - one
is scholarly and the other is more 'take action' type.  When faced with
danger - one 'steps up to the plate' and the other doesn't.

Mystery Men -   ( Comedy, Fun Romp )           1999
        Janeane Garofalo,  Ben Stiller
Several super-hero 'wanna-be's'  join together to fight evil.  Creative, imaginative, humorous movie pitting good and evil.  The league of losers does have good hearts and unwavering faith in their cause.

Powder - A young Albino man with no hair - possessing strange but power-
ful psychic gifts - sets off to teach the world to sing . . .   No that's not
right - sets off to help build world peace and conquer world hunger . . .
No, no, no!  He makes contact with . . .     No -  Electricity - there's some-
thing about electricity - and Powder is continually chastised and put down
when all he wants to do is good!  - Do me a favor, just go see the movie -
       I can't explain it.
