One Bond is Not Enough
IGN gets the full story for James Bonds triumphant to a first-person shooter for the N64.
Last January, shortly after MGM announced the title for its next James Bond movie as The World is Not Enough, speculation ran rampant regarding what gaming platforms the license might be translated to, and if a Nintendo 64, Rare developed sequel was somehow involved. Rumors of all sorts quickly spread like wildfire, claiming Nintendo itself was in a bidding war for the license and that it could very well be developed for the firm's still (at the time) unannounced next-generation console.
Talking with Danjaq, the license holders of the Bond franchise, IGN64 reported that MGM Interactive had nabbed the rights to bring The World is Not Enough home to multiple gaming platforms in the year 2000. And that was the last we heard of the promising title.
Until now.
IGN64 has learned that a Nintendo 64 version of The World is Not Enough not a Dolphin one - is secretly underway by UK-development house Eurocom. The game, which has been in the works for more than 16 months, is scheduled for release next year under a publishing partnership between MGM and Electronic Arts.
One former MGM Interactive employee, speaking to us under anonymity, admitted to witnessing an "extremely impressive" preview of the Eurocom-created engine for the title months ago. The game, which according to our source is already surprisingly far along in its development cycle, is completely different from the Black-Ops made Tomorrow Never Dies for PlayStation. Instead of following with a similar third-person view, Eurocom has allegedly created a 3D first-person shooter in the mold of Rare's GoldenEye 007.
While details regarding the game's approach and style are unavailable at this time, we were told that The World is Not Enough will play and look as closely as possible to Rare's classic shooter. The features so far include GoldenEye-style controls, the popular "floating cross hair" aiming mechanism, a four-player deathmatch mode and all the gadgets from the upcoming motion picture. And bearing Eurocom's considerable technical abilities in mind, we can't wait to see what this title develops into.
