| Located ten minutes from downtown Los Angeles, this large university is set on "150 parklike acres." This universities strongest undergraduate programs include journalism/communications, drama, engineering, and cinema/television. In fact, a state-of-the-art cinema/television complex was built with the help of USC graduates Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, and other Hollywood stars. A Thematic Options honors program, (nicknamed "Traumatic Option" because of its academic rigor) is offered for freshman with high verbal SAT I scores, in which students study Western civilization in place of the general education requirements. Sports are a large part of many students' lives. USC Trojan spirit in its cross-town rivilary with the University of California-Los Angeles and other California schools is a big part of the football season. Also, USC has won more national championships: 76 for the men and 13 for women, than any other Division I school. Tennis for the men and volleyball for the women are the two most notable programs. One downfall to this school is its questionable security, considering its location in a historically "very dangerous area." |
