| By: Imraan Husain Every Muslim is duty bound and responsible to be the "Witnesses to Truth" for the entire mankind and to stand up for what is right. If you know that there is a right path that will lead to eternal success and that all other paths will lead to the exact opposite, it is natural to let others know about it. Thus, it is our duty to guide others to what is right. Because we live in a world where each other's thoughts and acts influence others; when a people stop calling others to the right path, they themselves become the targets of being called to the wrong paths. If you don't become a DA'EE 'Inviter', you could easily become a MAD'OO 'The Invited' "You are the best of nations chosen for the benefit of mankind, enjoining what is right, forbidding what is wrong, and believing in Allah." [ 3:110] One of the outcry of the western world is "We want to restore Women's Rights" I think that westerners and the media have done great injustice to women because they know that Islamic standpoint regarding women is in total contrast to theirs. They therefore distort facts and make it seem as though Muslims have oppressed and dishonoured women. The media's objective is to sell news, irrelevant to whether it is true or false. It is also true that the media has distorted facts; regarding treatment of women and also accusing Muslim men of suppressing and controlling women through dressing in the Islamic manner; the Hijab. What would you think of a home that provided no shelter and no privacy? What would you think of a meal that provided no nourishment and no energy? What would you think of a business that does not have any merchandise to run the business? It does not take much to realize that an intelligent person would not like a home with no shelter and privacy, would not like to have food with no nourishment and energy and a business that is running at a loss. Yet, amazingly the rules seem to be different when it comes to another basic need: clothing, especially women's clothing. Every year fashion centres in Europe and America come up with the latest designs. And what have they designed? Another way of not covering the body. A dress that's equivalent to a home that provides no shelter and privacy.May Allah save us. Rabbana tell us in the Qur'an: "O Prophet! Enjoin your wives, daughters and the believing women that they should draw their outer garments over their persons. That is more proper, so that they may not be recognized and not bothered. Allah is Forgiving, Merciful." If we study history regarding the position of women we will come up with amazing facts. 1. The ancient Greek philosophers argued whether or not woman had a soul. 2. Some people in the societies that for centuries refused to consider women as human beings or to give them any rights 3. In Hindu practice was the satti which means that the wife must burn herself on the bier with her dead husband 4. Jews considered a women to be najis and during her Haiz and if she touched anything then that would also become najis. 5. West has settled the question once for all. The woman is nothing but body. That is why we see her semi-clad and nude pictures on every square inch of available space at a time when the West is busy congratulating itself for the remarkable progress of its women. Western society has made women the cheapest commodity, legalizing escort agencies, message parlours, illegal relationships, shamelessness, etc. From a car to a packet of lollies everything sell with a picture of a shameless woman. Lusty men satisfy themselves with dirty gazes. Islam has made a righteous women the most respectable and valuable commodity in this world. Islam liberated a woman from the tyranny especially today with a respectable dress code, when modern world wants her to become a man in order to get a sense of self worth and achievement. The Qur'an declared: And women shall have rights, similar to the rights against them, according to what is equitable." [ 2:228 ]. That remains its Command today and forever. Both men and women are equal in their humanity, in their accountability before Allah, in their responsibility to perform their assigned tasks and be judged based on their performance. But their assigned tasks are not the same. They have been given different capabilities by their Creator and the tasks based on those capabilities. This differentiation is not an error that needs to be corrected. It is the only basis for building a healthy and prosperous society. Modern world aims at replacing the complementary relationship between men and women with a competitive one. A bat cannot see during the day. One cannot blame the brightness of the sun. In a similar manner if one cannot see the hikmah and wisdom of the laws of Allah regarding the roles that men and women need to fulfil, then blame yourself and not Allah and His Rasul. "Gender Equality" is another topic that we need to know about. Because it is a campaign launched internationally and has gained a lot of momentum. |
