Breaking NewsGecko Killed in Cold Blood!

Gecko, the Lunar Alliance Co-leader and widely respected Metal soul, was slain this morning at 10:06 AM, according to a Descryer correspondent. He was peacefully gleaning in his lands until a hamlet was set aggressive to him. Readers may be surprised to know who set that hamlet aggressiveit was none other than his former apprentice, Kcunda, who he trusted enough to allow him to settle on his lands. While The Descryer was unable to discover why this killing occured, it could be assumed that it was related to the Roman invasion of RCE. Both souls had Rome on their lookup as of the first Descryer issue, both removed it shortly after. However, sources tell The Descryer that Gecko left Rome, while Kcunda stayed in it. A different source said that the killing was motivated by Blooddrake, Romes leader.

The proof of this deed was revealed by a Descryer correspondants scan, which revealed this.

Governmental FeatureKobalos

As part of some issues of The Descryer, new features on different governments will be posted. This issue, we begin on a profile of the Kingdom of Kobalos, one of GoKridas newest governments.

This summer, two new worlds were discovered. One, Rainbow Youth, was the location of a massive war, since two different players with hugely different interests disrupted on to it. The other, Rainbow Goblin Moss World, was found by Chmmr, who generously gave it to the Lunar Alliance. A team of Lunar Alliance members, led by Leelas, were dispatched to the world by the former LA co-leader Ouroboros, and began to colonize the planet from there. They soon, however, realized that they didnt want to be a territory of the Lunar Alliance, and, with the LA Leaderships blessing, they formed an independent nation, known as The Kingdom of Kobalos, a name that comes from the Latin Kobal, meaning Goblin. The world was also renamed Kobalos, a name that is currently used more often than the boring RGMW.

The Kingdom, or just Kobalos, has a very simple, and yet so-far effective, governmental system. At the top, there is the King. The King makes all the decisions. There is no bulky bureaucracy, but, the king, as a benevolent monarch, tends to take his fellow citizens concerns into consideration. The King appoints a small council, which is similar to a cabinet. This contains positions like Mistress of Ships, Master of Coin, etc., all of whom are deputized to perform certain tasks.

There is, however, a check on the kings power, unlike most monarchies. The citizens of Kobalos can elect judges. These judges require a 3/4 vote to be elected and only a 1/4 vote to be impeached, meaning that only the most trustworthy souls can become judges. By killing a soul, the judge removes that soul of all rank. For example, if the judge killed the King, the King would lose his power and become just an average citizen. The Kingdom would then hold an election to select a new king. This unique, very interesting government system has worked exceptionally well so far, and will presumably continue to do so in the future.

Although it started with a mere handful of souls, Kobalos continues to expand, gaining more than a soul a week. Exciting projects are happening every day on Kobalos, the most evident being the ongoing construction of a Kobalan Gate Ring. We dont know what the future holds for Kobalos, but great things seem to be on the horizon!
The Descryer also interviewed Leelas. The conversation is presented here, in its entirety.

1. What is your position on Kobalos? What powers and duties do you have in that position?

I am the King of Kobalos. Basically, I make the big, sweeping decisions regarding what the Kingdom as a whole does, and can manage things on as small a level as I wish. I am not an absolute monarch, though. The Kobalan system has a builting mechanism to allow the King to be deposed, and I was selected for this role by the people.

2. How did this unique governmental system form? What made you decide to do it this way?

This universe needs more dramatic flair and less beureaucracy. The quality we're going for is closer to RCE than YM. The Kobalan system is basically designed to accomodate benevolent dictators.

3. Why did you decide to call this world Kobalos, rather than sticking with its original name?

To make it special. People who live here on Kobalos feel a very deep attachment to the planet and the land. Part of this is because we have chosen a different name than everyone else. Besides it sounds more interesting than the technical name

4. How is Kobalos different from other planetary orginizations, such as the LA and Brotherhood?

Kobalos is far less beureaucratic than the LA. Instead of having a "leader", a "battle coordinater" and a "bursar", we have a King, a Lord Commander of the Rainbow Guard and a Master of Coin. The difference in the names of the officials is merely semantic, but the way the government works is far different. We're putting our words into action while the LA's still in the "preliminary discussion" phase.

As for the Brotherhood... well, we're no more like tham than we are like the Lunar Alliance. The Brotherhood isn't really an organization so much as it is a coalition of players. Kobalos is a nation. That's about as different as you can get.

5. Is Kobalos accepting citizens? If so, how would an interested soul apply?

Absolutely! All who wish to become part of the Great Kingdom of Kobalos need only contact me, and I will most likely add you.

6. Are there requirements for becoming a citizen? If so, what?

Requirements? Not really. But young players, and those with no strong ties to other groups are especially sought after. Those wishing to have access to the royal forum have to take an Oath of Fealty, however. This oath basically states that your loyalty is to Kobalos before any other group, and that in times of war, you will fight for Kobalos or not fight at all. It can be honorably renounced by those who don't believe that they can support Kobalos any longer, but breaking it will earn you the grudge of an entire nation.

7. Some critics of the Kobalan government have said its system is to easy to abuse if a bad king is elected. Do you feel that is so? Do you feel Kobalos could elect a bad monarch? What would happen if they did?

Anything's possible, I supposed. Our elections for monarch work differently than, say the LA's leader elections, though. Basically, the monarch's chosen in a series of elections, carried out in the manner of a single elimination tourney. For example, instead of having Levant, Leuthayos and Mentor all on the same ballot, we first have a ballot featuring Levant and Leuthayos, and then whichever of them wins that election is featured on the same balat as Mentor.

Should an oppressive monarch be elected, the judges come into play. To become a judge requires more than a 3/4 majority vote among the voting citizens of Kobalos. To lose your judge status requires a 1/4 majority. Only the most trustworthy of souls can hold that title, and obviously, they have to be in favor with the people. Anyone killed by a judge is stripped of their title, so the judges can force an oppressive monarch to resign.

These are the only things we vote on, and will likely be the only things contained within our constitution.

8. Are you happy with the way Kobalos has evolved so far, and with what its citizens have done?

By the Seven, I am proud beyond belief. I never thought that it would be this easy to gather such a brave, loyal and enthusiastic group of citizens, but it's happened. The name "Kobalos" has replaced the technical name of our world in the vocabulary of GoKrida. In the space of less than 6 months, we have risen from nothing to become one of the most well known names in GoKrida. And may the Stranger take my soul if I falsely claim responsibility for this. It's because of the citizens that we have come this far in such little time. I encourage anyone reading this to consider becoming a part of this.

9. What plans does Kobalos have for the future?

The simplest thing we have planned is a full set of gates. As for more ambitious plans, we intend to expand our world using ETA, thus making it the largest world in Manifest Chaos. Our ultimate goal is to make this universe a more interesting place.

10. Lastly, has Kobalos formed a position regarding the Roman attack on RCE? If so, what?

Blooddrake has a vendetta against this universe. He has stated himself, to multiple people, that his ultimate goal is to kill Shzuru and do his best to end GoKrida as we know it.

He is a petty, nasty, obnoxious young man who believes that acts of destruction in this universe will give him relevence in another. He and his Romans have betrayed and attacked a planet full of productive souls, and intend to make it their base of operations, destroying all of its gates.

This, we cannot allow.

Letters to the Editor

To the Editors,

Ancalagon mentioned that the current denizens of RCE had strong ties to the LA. However, Daithi and Anjill, the two most prominent souls on RCE before the Roman invasion, were completely neutral in all LA conflicts.

To the Editors,

I do not argue that all change is bad. I do argue that this change is bad, in part because it will encourage stagnation in the long term. My love for RCE and my hatred for Blooddrake aside, I believe that his government will destroy the gates on Rainbow Catastrophe, pen new souls into a small, cramped space, or spawn-kill them. Those stresses will result in a much higher rate of inactivity. Active souls are the agents of change. New ones tip balances and add new ingrediants. Cut the flow of young souls and you bleed the life from this universe. I therefore oppose any change that will endanger new souls.

KcundaA Treacherous Snake
By JWRTolkien

Kcundas killing of Gecko, his mentor and lord, shows many things about his character and the situation on RCE. Most importantly, it reinforces the view that Kcunda is not to be trusted. Ever since he first spawned in Chaos, Kcunda has led a life of treachery, cheating, and duplicity. He asked Gothmistress to teach him some basic knowledges, and, when he arrived on her square, he attempted to kill her. Later, he claimed his actions had been orchestrated by Blooddrakethe same player who is still pulling his strings.

Not content with mere dishonesty, Kcunda decided to turn to multi-ing, as well. He made two multies, and then, in a true gesture of solidarity, engineered a situation in which he offered to kill his own multi in exchange for being removed from the Gate Patrol. Thankfully, the GP was wise enough to see through that trick. Hated by almost all souls, Kcundas prospects seemed dismal, until a kind Metal soul known as Gecko offered to take Kcunda in as his apprentice. Gecko arranged for Kcunda to leave YM, taught him a plethora of basic and advanced knowledges, and rewarded him with lands and power. For those gifts, Kcunda gave back the only present he has ever givendeceit. This morning, he killed the person to who he owes everything in GoKrida at the orders of his once again puppeteer, BD.

Once again, this shows the rest of GoKrida Kcunda is a scheming cur, who is not to be trusted or even shown basic kindness, lest he reward you for it with death.
