Part 7

Dominic had gotten the call from his hitman, and went to the roof to
await his arrival. He had been very upset to hear that the children
were still alive. 'At least the lackey's are dead. Their portion of
the money is now mine.' It didn't matter about the children though.
He had plenty of money now, and many more opportunities to take out
all that Lex loved. He heard the sound of a helicopter and watched as
it drew nearer to land on the rooftop. Soon he'd be able to deliver
the material to Qui, and Guardino. Then he'd be free to do whatever
he deemed to do. And with those two as allies, he was ensured a very
good future.

As he thought this he saw another speck in the distance. He shielded
his eyes and squinted trying to see what it could be. Finally he
dismissed it out of mind as unimportant, and focused on the
helicopter moving in to land. As it did a masked man jumped out of
the helicopter and ran to see him with a bag slung over his
shoulder. "Sir! I got the materials you requested. Now for my
payment." He yelled over the roar of the helicopters' propellers
speeding up to take off. Dominic gestured to the door and they headed
inside. Little did they know that the speck Dominic had spotted was
another helicopter, and that the helicopters' occupants were calling
for reinforcements to the house.

"Well Mr. McGree. You certainly did a good job retrieving the files,"
Dominic said as he looked over the codes as they got to the
livingroom. He handed them to a servant who took them away
immediately. Several copies of these would be handed to his
associates before the night was over. "But," he continued with a
sharp voice, "you didn't complete the assignment. The children are
still alive, and well. I will be generous though and give you quite a
large amount, much more than you're entitled to for doing half the
job." McGree's jaw tightened, but he simply nodded and rose. This was
going to ruin his rep a bit. But it didn't matter. He would restore
it quickly. Especially with the amount Dominic was talking about. Not
as much, but enough to get sophisticated equipment, and to take a
long vacation.

"You know where to send the money." At Dominic's nod he stood and
left.

Dominic crossed the room to get a glass of wine for celebration. Not
everything had happened as it should, but the results were enough to
satisfy him for now.

He was so into his thoughts he didn't here the door being kicked open
or the brief struggle between McGree, and several men dressed in
black down stairs in the foyer.

He certainly heard his livingroom door crash open and the loud voice
shouting, "FREEZE!" He felt the glass slip from his fingers and
heard the loud crash to the floor, a fitting symbol of his world,
shattering to pieces.

The children were untied and looked over thoroughly by the best
doctors. After they were approved of being in good health they were
swept up in their parents arms. Trish was clinging to her mother, as
Sage was attached to one side of Clark, and Kel to the other. They
huddled together for long moments, just basking in their
togetherness. Soft words whispered to the children had their
hysterics down quickly. Soon they were back to themselves in their
parents' presence, asking for things and wanting to go home. Lex had
called his driver, since neither he or Clark were in any mood to
drive, and he came to them in record time. They all piled into the
car and soon were in Smallville with the police escort allowing them
drive well above the speed limit. The kids were all over their
parents switching back and forth between them to get as much love and
assurance from them as possible. When they settled down in the car,
Lex was holding Sage in his arms with Kel buried against his side,
and Clark held Trish rocking her gently.

Once they got home the children were enfolded amongst their
grandparents, and family friends. All the attention soon wore them
out completely and they fell asleep in the warmth and love that
surrounded them. They were put to bed, tucked in by their parents,
and watched over for a quite some time.

Soon Clark and Lex left their rooms and went downstairs to their
friends and family who were hugging and crying in relief, that their
angels were back and safe. Soon everyone left after extended good-
byes, and well wishes except Martha and Jonathan. They sat quietly in
the den as they watched the fireplace flicker and rise alternately.
Then Lex, who was on the couch sitting between Clarks thighs, smiled
and looked up at his mate. "They're home Clark." He whispered. Clark
gave him a grin and the first genuine laugh that he's heard since
that morning they were taken away. "Yeah. They're back."

The phone rang and everyone stared at it until Jonathan reached
forward and picked it up. "Hello? No, this is Jonathan. I'll take a
message for them. Uh-huh. Good. I'll be glad to inform them. Thanks,
Cline." He put the phone down and looked up at them. "Dominic's in
custody, and the hitman, Kyle McGree as well. They won't be bothering
you anymore." Martha laughed and clapped, and Clark let out a breath
and collapsed against the couch they were sitting on pulling Lex back
with him. He could sense that Lex wasn't satisfied though. "Lex?"

"Hmm?" Came the slow reply.

"What's wrong?"

Lex sighed and placed his hands on Clarks larger ones resting on his
belly. "Nothing baby. Nothing at all."

Clark knew Lex was lying, but also knew he'd tell him when he was
ready. So he dropped the matter for now more that happy to hold his
mate and listen with his super-hearing the children's heart's beating.

The next day:

"Dominic was arrested for orchestrating the kidnapping of the Luthor
Children and the murder of two men as well as helping known weapons
dealers obtain certain false codes for several countries," Chloe read
aloud, "and will be in prison for these crimes for life." She had
brought a copy of the article her colleague had printed. As she,
Pete, Lana, Whitney, Martha Jon, Lex, and Clark sat around the dining
room table she read the article aloud.

"It was thorough and well written, Chloe. Your friend is a good
reporter." Clark said while they ate breakfast. None of the children
had gotten up yet, so they all sat around waiting for them. Lex had
run some errand this morning, but had been back before the kids had
awakened. Clark had tried to drill him, but all he had said was
you'll see with a smirk on his face. Clark had seen that look before
and knew exactly what it meant, so of course he couldn't wait to find
out what he was up too.

"Mommy? Daddy?" Came a sleepy voice in the doorway. They all turned
to see Kel, holding onto Sage and Trish's hand. Lex and Clark were up
and to them quickly. They embraced their children and asked if they
were hungry which received a resounding yes, making everyone laugh.
They clambered onto their parent's laps and ate loudly happily
sitting in the bright dining room infused with warmth.

"Hey how did you two get here without Maria?" Pete asked Whit and
Lana. They smiled and said they had gotten Nell to watch her. After
all they wanted to be there for their friends. Soon the dining room
was silent, except for the kids munching away. Neither parent had the
heart to make them mind their manners, instead just cherishing their
presence.

Once again everyone filed out once more, this time including Martha
and Jon so that the family could be alone together.

As they sat together in the den Kel had climbed onto Lex's lap and
wrapped his arms around his neck. "Mommy?" Lex smiled and rested his
head against his son's forehead. "Yes sweetheart?" He said just as
quietly. "What's that smell that you wear?" Lex laughed softly and
thought that his children asked the strangest things. "It's called
Inquire, sweetie." Kel smiled and nodded, before taking a huge whiff
of his mother once more. "I like it." Lex laughed again in pure joy
at the simplicity of this moment, and hugged his son close. Trish and
Sage had been hanging off of their fathers' arms and lifted up and
down like a ride. It had made them giggle and squeal like the kids
they were, before the all came and sat with Lex, and Kel. They spent
the rest of the day just being together. Then night fell, and the
kids were tucked in again. Lex and Clark turned in early as well. As
they lay stretched out on the bed curled around each other Clark
nudged his mate gently.

"Lex?" A drowsy 'hmm', came from the vicinity of Clarks' chest.

"What did you do this morning? And why didn't you allow Qui and
Guardinos' names to be printed?" A chuckle escaped Lex, and the sound
vibrated against Clark. He looked up briefly at Clark.

"Can't wait huh. Well I guess it doesn't matter if you know now. I
had been letting some contacts know that the codes that Dominic had
collected were old, and that he had been planning to use those codes
to betray Qui and Guardino. As for why their names weren't printed, I
wanted to make sure they knew it was me that didn't allow it. They
felt indebted and offered me their services."

Clark looked confused. "But why would you need their services?"

Lex chuckled again. "Well you see honey, Qui and Guardino have a lot
of men in the prison that Dominic happened to be transferred to. I
just asked them to tell their men to 'give Dominic an intense
welcome'." Clark raised an eyebrow at his mate.

"Lex..."

"Well he deserved it! Like I said, no one, NO ONE, messes with me and
what's mine. Just wish I could see his face. And a chance to take
care of Clower and Krass. Bastards deserved more than what they'd
received. Now let's sleep. I'm tired." With that Lex burrowed back
into Clarks' chest and soon soft snores were heard. Clark lay awake
for several minutes more. Then he shook his head, sighed and pulled
Lex closer as he drifted off.

His last thought was, 'I guess you can't take ALL the evil out of a
Luthor no matter how much you domesticate them.'

The End

Author Note: I think I might make a prequel, so you understand things
(such as the kids) a little better. Let me know what you thought of
this story, and major thanks to all you guys who responded, and gave
such great feedback. :)
