Part 1/?
The tires on Lex's silver Mercedes kicked up gravel as he stopped
hard and jumped out of the car and a servant jumped in. Bodyguards
muscled the reporters and cameramen out of range as Lex jumped
through the gate. Personal staff, and detectives, as well as the
local sheriff kept pace with him while talking. He stopped and gave
orders barely thinking about what he was saying before continuing to
the house. As he neared the front of the castle Lex started running
as fast as he could. His heart pounded as his feet kicked up gravel
and left the escort of bad news behind him when he spotted Clark.
Clark turned toward him just as Lex through himself into those strong
arms.
"Clark. Clark...This can't happen, they were safe just this morning,
I even talked to Kel, Sage, and Trish at work. Why is this happening?"
"Lex." Clark's voice was weak and they both trembled in each other's
arms. "I don't know. I got a call this afternoon from Millian. She
was frantic and when I got here the police and newspapers were
already here. I just now found out that they were kidnapped. Lex we
have to find them! They're not safe with anyone but us..." Clark's
voice began to rise as hysterics kicked in.
Lex rocked them and shushed him trying to keep a cool head himself.
Panic was not an option with Clark freaking out. Just then the head
detective came over. "Mr. Luthor?" As Lex turned he saw the detective
extend a hand which Lex automatically shook and just stared at him
waiting. "Mr. Luthor I'm Detective Cline. I am very sorry about your
situation, and we're going to do everything possible to get your
children back. Kidnapping cases are my specialty. Now I know you and
Mr. Kent haven't been completely debriefed on the situation, but I'd
like to do that now. Inside if that's not a problem. It's getting
dark.... And those damn reporter lights are killing my eyes here."
Clark straightened up and nodded in agreement, pulling Lex along
through the foyer of the house, into the informal dining room with
Cline in tow. He made sure Lex sat before taking a seat next to him
opposite of Detective Cline. "Now I'm going to tell you what I've
been told. I received a call this morning from the department down
here about your case and came as soon as possible. Now from what I
could gather from your nanny is that she and the children were out in
the field behind your house. She said the kids became hungry and as
she was taking them inside to eat several masked men ran out of the
bushes and took the children. Miss Millian has a very nasty gash at
the head so I'm assuming they knocked her out before leaving. Now
this situation is typical in kidnappings, but to be honest, your not
typical people. They most definitely want money, or some type of
favor that your status Mr. Luthor, or even yours Mr. Kent can give
them. So what I recommend is that we wait by the phone and see what
they want. An announcement acknowledging them to put them in motion
will expedite this process. Perhaps a reward for anyone that knows
anything or that can return your children, or a plea for the
kidnappers of what do they want, and so on. I'd suggest that you Mr.
Luthor make the public appearance."
It was very silent in the small dining room, as Clark sat there with
his head hanging and an arm around Lex's waist. Lex was staring at
the opposite wall from behind Cline. Then he slowly came out of it
and stared at the detective. "You're the best at what you do right
Cline?" At Clines nod he stood and walked to the full-length window
looking at the deep purple, pink and orange sky as the sun sank below
the horizon. His throat worked then he turned his back to the
window. "In your experience, do these cases ever work out in the end?"
Cline looked down briefly then back up into Lex's haunted eyes. "I
can't rightly say Mr. Luthor. It all depends on the kidnappers. We'll
have to wait and see. But honestly in cases such as yours, when rich
or powerful people are targeted the kidnappers have a very high tech
base, are rich themselves, or are suicidal/homicidal, or fanatics.
They either want to hurt you, want to prove that they can get to a
Luthor, or just want money, but will kill your children as well as
themselves for their greater good. In any case it won't be simple,
quick or painless."
Clark slammed a hand against the table (not hard enough to break) and
Lex nodded, walked right out of the room. Silence, then a piercing,
anguished scream that made the hairs stand on the back of both Clark
and Cline's necks, followed by continuos crashes. Clark was up
instantly running towards the sounds and found Lex in the kitchen and
ducked just in time to avoid a glass, that hit the wall behind him.
Lex just collapsed and fell to his knees amongst broken glass and
swayed back and forth gently. Clark was there and picked him up off
the floor and carried him to their room. He was vaguely aware of
Cline shadowing them as he walked slowly up the stairs.
"It's okay Lex." He whispered raggedly. "We'll get them back. I
promise you we'll get them back. And the men that did this will wish
they hadn't been born." The deep and murderous tone in Clark's voice
sent shivers up Lex's spine and he burrowed deeper into him mate's
arms. Cline hung in the doorway as he watched Clark sit down on the
bed with Lex still in his arms and maneuvered Lex so that he was
facing him, legs wrapped around his waist, Lex's arms like a vise
around his neck. He started a sort of soft purring that he knew Lex
loved to hear and feel, and rubbed his lover's back soothingly
rocking them both until the trembling stopped. Soon Lex stopped
shaking and clung to Clark.
"Every time we find peace and happiness a large hand comes and takes
it away. Why can't we just be happy Clark? It's like the universe
gets off on making us miserable." Clark didn't answer, just continued
the soothing motions and hugged Lex tighter to him. The quiet that
filled the room was soon shattered by Martha and Jonathan, who almost
knocked Cline over to see their boys.
"Clark! Lex! We heard what happened. Are you boys alright?" They
continued the interrogation until they were satisfied with every bit
of information. Lex had moved to sit besides Clark on the bed nestled
close to his warmth. Cline filled in the blanks that Lex and Clark
had about specifics, and soon the Kent's were hovering over a pale
Lex, and a scarily still Clark.
"Mr. and Mrs. Kent as I have informed Mr. Luthor, and Mr. Kent, we
will be doing everything possible to help find the children. Now if
we could write a speech for the cameras, and get the ball rolling."
Everyone in the room nodded and soon with the intelligent minds at
work, an acceptable speech was prepared. Clark clung to Lex's hand as
they made there way downstairs with their parent's and Detective
Cline behind them. They slowly walked out of the house after Lex got
a jacket and towards the cameras. Almost immediately flashbulbs were
going off and reporters were hurling questions at them. Lex stopped
and put and hand on Clarks belly stopping him from following him to
the gate and glanced back at Martha, Jonathan, and briefly Detective
Cline. Then he stepped confidently up to the cameras.
"I know you have questions but I ask you to hold them for Mr. Jones
while I make an announcement." The clamor immediately died down and
everyone's attention was riveted on Lex. "As you all know Clark Kent
and I have been mates for many years. You also know that we have
adopted 3 children of our own, two boys and one girl. They've been
kidnapped today." A small pause for a soft breath and the reporters
were starting with the question again. "Please." That a hand stopped
all questions again. "I would like anyone who knows anything, has
seen anything, or heard anything about my children to please contact
the police with information. There will be a large reward of $500,000
for such ones if the information is reliable. And to the kidnappers."
Another deep breath to calm the rage growing within him. His voice
came out as steel. "If you touch one hair on any of my children's
head, I will come after you and I won't stop coming until I'm
through. And when I'm finished you'll be lucky to have a speck of you
remain in existence." With that he turned his back on the cameras
and flashes to let the PR man take over. In the night he saw his mate
withholding a satisfied smile, Martha and Jon looking worried and
Cline with a raised eyebrow. As Lex got close enough Cline
said, "That wasn't in the speech."
"I couldn't go up there and ask kidnappers to call me. If they hurt
my children they know the consequences. Calling is there only other
option besides trying to drive us crazy with silence. But we on the
other hand will be in motion from the start. They will be sorry they
messed with Lex Luthor and what's his." With that he strode to the
house meeting Clark with an arm around his waist, parents in step
behind them.
Cline watched them and shook his head. 'Lex is certainly not
conventional. I knew he'd be the best for the speech. He did what I
hoped he would. I hope this one turns out for the best.' Even though
he wouldn't admit it, he liked Luthor, and Clark Kent. They weren't
what the newspapers portrayed them to be at all, not at all snobby or
harsh. Just private. But one thing that kept nagging at him was how
they kept referring to the children. Now he knew adoptive parents
loved children like there own, Clark and his parents a prime example,
but Luthor and Clark acted...differently. He couldn't explain, but if
he'd been asked he would've sworn those kids were birthed by them,
not adopted. 'Heck the kids even look like them.' He knew from the
pictures he had seen of the children, and they were beautiful. The
boys hearty and healthy, Kel, who was 10 and Sage, 8 looked like
Clark, dark hair, and hazel eyes. Trisha, who was 5, looked more like
Lex, with her slightly paler complexion, shifting blue/gray eyes and
deep red/chestnut hair framed her angelic face. He could understand
the pain and loss though. He had been in a similar situation long
ago, before his wife passed, and he had a beautiful little boy of his
own. It's why he was here, doing what he had committed to years ago,
after they found his son's body in a ditch. Making sure to get to the
children before that happened was the key. 'I better get to it then.'
With that thought and motivation, he headed off to drill some of his
contacts.

"Did you see the newscast? Yeah he got a little cocky there. We'll
have to make sure he watches himself from now on. No don't hurt them.
Just scare them. We'll just give Luthor a call and put his scared
kids on. That should get his respect. Yeah they went into the house,
and Detective Cline just drove off. No one suspects a thing. I'll be
there by tomorrow. Luthor let all of his staff off, so it'll just be
him, Clark, Martha, and Jon Kent. I'm assuming Cline will be back.
Look I've got to go. To many reporters hanging around. Yeah, see ya
tomorrow."
A cell phone was put in a back pocket and the garden tools put away
before he jumped in his beat up truck and drove away.

"Kel? I'm hungry." Came a soft voice from beside Kel. He looked over
in the darkening room, and saw his little sister holding her stomach
with a scrunched up face.
"I know angel. So are Sage and I. I'm sure the kidnappers will give
us food sometime soon. Just don't think about it okay?" He said as he
pulled her close to his side. He felt her nod, and he breathed in the
strawberry shampoo that she loved so much. He felt Sage shift and
grumble. "What was that Sage?"
"She had to bring up food. I was doing a good job of taking my mind
off of it." Kel sighed and wrapped his other arm around Sage. Then he
sat up suddenly. "Wait I think I still have that piece of candy daddy
gave me before he went to work. Here, we'll split it up." It wasn't
much but the kids quieted as they got a little sugar into their
systems.
"I miss mommy." Trish's voice was soft and hitched.
"Shh. So do I angel. So do I." Kel looked around the room looking for
something to keep their minds off of food, and their parents. Nothing
but a bare room, and high window, and a light in the center. The
colors on the wall further lighted up the room with oranges, pinks,
purples, and gold from what Kel knew was the sunset outside. 'Nothing
to entertain them with.' Kel thought. Sage shifted again and rested a
head on his shoulder.
"Can we play a game Kel? Daddy played with us that time we were stuck
in that big storm in the barn." Kel smiled at the memory and nodded.
The game had been 'I spy', but there wasn't much in the room to
spy. "How about we do a alphabet game."
Trish turned and sat on her knees to face him with a tilted
head. "What do you mean Kel?" He smiled and explained.
"I'll start off with the letter 'A'. I'll name something, and then
you guys have to name something with an 'A' too. We do it until we
get down to 'Z' and then start again. Whoever doesn't say something
with whatever letter we're on losses a turn. Okay?"
Trish and Sage looked at each other and rolled their eyes. Their
older brother was always making games up. "Yeah okay let's play",
said Sage.
Just then the large metal door suddenly swung open and a big man with
a cap on stood in the doorway. "I've got one. Aww, man!" Said Sage.
Kel glared at the man and softly whispered to his brother. "That's
two."
