"GET HIM OOOOUUUTTTTT!!!"
"Lex please calm down. The procedure will be painless, but I need you
to push."
Lex's hand was squeezing Clark's with an impressive strength. Martha
was with them while Jon, Chloe, and Pete waited outside the room.
"PUSH!? I shouldn't have to PUSH!"
"The baby needs to be moved from your center, or I will run the risk
of damaging you."
"Aaargh!" Lex flopped back against the cushions that held him
partially up. They were in the guestroom of the Kent's home were they
had moved the pod so that their was enough room for a queen-sized bed
and the pod to do whatever it needed.
Clark stroked his forehead, and tried to kiss his brow. Lex glared at
him and growled, "Don't touch me! You're never allowed to touch me
again!"
Clark just nodded and looked at Jor-El. "Can I help him in anyway?"
"Hold him up by the shoulders to give him leverage to push." Clark
did what he was told and murmured softly in Lex's ear to try and calm
him down.
Lex strained and grunted while trying to push the little vessel
within him. He felt Clark's arm wrap around his shoulders and he
unconsciously leaned back against the broad chest and held onto the
hand in his with a death grip as he pushed some more.
He panted and fell against Clark after, what seemed to be forever of
more pushes. Clark looked concerned and looked at his mother. She
frowned as well. "Jor-El is the baby far enough to remove?" She asked
softly.
"One more push should put him in the position needed." Clark looked
down at his exhausted mate and clenched him briefly before shifting
them up a little.
"One more Lex. Come on, you can do it."
"I...I can't Clark. So tired."
Clark moved so he was on his side still supporting Lex, but faced so
that he could look into Lex's face. His mate was flushed, and
panting, with eyes shining with tears.
"I love you Lex. And I know you're tired, and weak, but I need you to
push one more time."
"Weak!?" That bought the fight back into his mate. He let go of a
string of curses, that had Clark grinning, Martha blushing, Pete
snickering, Chloe giggling, and Jon shaking his head. The three
outside could hear quite a bit going on in the room.
"You alien freak! You did this to me, and you have the nerve to call
me weak!? You try carrying a baby around for 5 1/2 months!"
Lex had squeezed his hand so hard, that Clark knew if he was human he
would be in serious pain. But he went with it since he could feel
Lex's body tensing as he pushed hard.
"That's it." Jor-El said immediately. "Please stand out of the way
Kal-El." Lex wouldn't let him go though and he looked helplessly at
Martha.
"Can Clark hold Lex's hand?"
"He may as long as it's outside the field."
Clark stood and moved back a little, but was still close enough to
hold Lex's outstretched hand. They watched as a blue beam came from
Jor-El's hand and widened to encompass all of Lex's body. They saw it
grow brighter at Lex's belly, and an incision appear across it. Lex
apparently didn't feel a thing because his gaze was steady on Clark.
They watched as the placenta looking lump the size of a large
cantaloupe rose out of the incision. Lex's incision was sealed as if
it hadn't appeared with only a thin red line showing were it had
been.
They all watched the placenta now as it opened and fluid leaked out
onto the bed. It dissolved and presented a tiny shape curled in a
fetal position.
"You may lay with Lex again Kal-El. Hold out your arms Lex." Jor-El's
voice broke through the silence and made them jump. Clark settled in
behind Lex as the beam went out and pulled his mate against his
chest. Lex held out his arms, and watched in awe as the tiny life
floated down and was placed in his arms. Martha was there with a soft
towel and a small blanket. Clark helped him wipe the baby off, and
they wrapped its form into the blanket.
Clark managed to speak first. "Is he supposed to be so tiny? It's
okay that he doesn't cry?"
"The child's size and silence is normal for a Kryptonian male's
pregnancy. I removed the fluids from his mouth, and nose. He is a
healthy child." They watched the tiny bundle in wonder as it took in
little tiny breaths.
Martha opened the door, and gestured the others in. They all crowded
around Clark, Lex, and Kel quietly.
Lex very softly stroked the baby's cheek and watched as large hazel
eyes opened and blinked as they focused on him in the dim lighting.
He gasped softly at the miracle and leaned in to kiss the little
head. The baby gurgled and gave him the most beautiful toothless
smile he had ever seen, as his tiny hands waved around and slid
against Lex's cheek.
Lex felt his heart jump and tears filled his eyes as he stared at the
little bundle in his arms. He felt Clark tighten his grip as the baby
gurgled some more and his eyes focused on Clark. Clark bent his head
to smile at the baby and they all laughed when a chunk of his hair
was grabbed and tugged.
"You're going to be strong like your daddy, right Kel?" The baby
yawned and closed his eyes and seemed to snuggle into the crook of
Lex's arm.
"We made him Lex. We created this life." Lex smiled at the sheer joy
and amazement in his loves' voice.
"Yes we did love. Yes we did."
Lex looked up at the happy faces around him and felt his insides turn
to mush. 'There are so many things in my life that I'm not proud of.
But life has decided to give me a second chance with these precious
gifts. Gifts that I can never take for granted.'
Clark's soft kiss on his cheek made him smile, and his heart swelled
in contentment, as the others cooed and made soft noises to the
sleeping baby.
Soon Martha shooed them out so they could let the trio sleep. Lex was
on the edge of sleep with the steady beat of a strong heart behind
his and the one just beginning beneath his hand.
"Life's gift's are extraordinary ones." Was his last thought before
he fell asleep.
