Part 5

Clark was up much earlier than usual because he couldn't sleep. All
night, after a brief nap, he had been thinking about his Kryptonian
mother. He had so much to learn from her about his people and
himself.

He lay in bed and stared at the ceiling before deciding to get up.
Taking a five second shower so not to wake up his parents he got
dressed. He flew down the creaky stairs feet barely touching them and
out to the barn. It was still very dark out when he went to the
cellar.

"Cresi?" The humming sound started up and he drew the tarp off the
pod to reveal the blue tinge. She appeared in front of him sitting on
the pod.

"Kal-El, your back. I'm assuming since you had time to think about it
that you have questions for me." At his nod she motioned for him to
ask.

"Well this is kind of embarrassing, but I'm having a problem. You see
on this planet its not regular for a man to fall in love with
another..." He was red and she could feel his embarrassment acutely.

"Yes. I've accessed the planetary files and know all about their
mating habits. But my dear son, they are far from our own. You don't
have to be embarrassed about what you feel. Tell me and I'll try to
explain for you." He seemed to relax and started to speak.

"There's this man who is a billionaire named Lex Luthor that's
extremely important here. He has an international company and runs a
very busy schedule. The thing is that I like him a great deal. We've
been friends since I was in high school, and we've had this
connection for much longer than that, from when I first met him, and
saved his life. But I don't feel that I'm good enough for him. He's
rich, gorgeous, confident, and my best friend. I don't want to lose
him...But I keep having these cravings for him that aren't in any way
just friendly. I want to possess him, and to make sure he's mine and
only mine. To make him want me so bad that he can't think of being
with anyone else but me." He stopped and looked upset. "I-I acted on
these impulses yesterday. Now I have no idea what to say to him, or
what to do with myself now that I've actually felt what I can have
with him..." He looked up at her with a pained expression, and she
gave him a comforting look.

"It's alright Kal-El. On our planet our people mated for life. For
each clan to survive the children born were named after their
mother's clan. That is why you're of the clan of Qwestine." She
started off with history to take his mind off his pain and saw it
work. His head was tilted and he was paying rapt attention to her.

"But wouldn't that kind of mess up father's clan?" She smiled at his
question and shook her head.

"Each generation had many boys and girls. The girls would mate and
their children would take their clan name. The boys would mate and
their children would take the mother's name. If all the children were
named after one family other clans would suffer." He nodded at the
logical explanation and waited for her to continue.

"What you feel for your male of the Earth is not uncommon in our
culture. Many men take men as mates. The same rule applied then too.
The children would take the name of the man that choose to bare them.
Now I'm guessing that you are afraid to mate with this young man
because of his gender and the reactions that such a mating would
bring from the earthlings?" He was shaking his head yes, then no.

"Not exactly. It's what you said a little bit, but I think Lex
wouldn't care. It's just that I don't know if he desires me the way
he does. After all I'm sure he has rich women or men lined up to
marry him. I'm also pretty sure he's going to want to talk, and I'm
not sure what to tell him. He doesn't know about my powers or
origin."

"Well that is a problem if he doesn't know. If he did you could tell
him that your status on Krypton was prestigious. Our family had some
of the greatest thinkers, and inventors. And on our planet knowledge
is important, so we were as 'rich' or more so than your male if I
read his status correctly. And my dear you've grown up into a fine
specimen of a Kryptonian male. In ways you stand out much more than
many on our planet. If your male doesn't wish to be with you I'm sure
you could convince him otherwise."

She watched him blush lightly, but also straighten his posture. 'Yes
my child realize how remarkable you are.' Though his human parents
nurtured him well, they hid him too much. He should stand tall and
confidently as he would have on Krypton if they were still there, not
hunch over and try to diminish himself. Perhaps with time she could
help him do so. Now as for his male she wished to see him herself.

"Perhaps Kal-El we should tell your parents when they awaken. I think
its time to cut to the source of the problem, and take away all the
barriers. But for now I must attend to something for myself. Are
there any other pressing matters on your mind?" He looked thoughtful
briefly and then nodded.

"You said that men would take men as mates, and that the same rule
applied to them in matter of children?" At her nod he continued. "Men
on Krypton can have children?"

She laughed outright at his incredulous expression. "Yes my child it
was possible to alter a male's physiology slightly in order to bare
children. We did not allow individuals partners mating choices stop
us from breeding. I still have the procedure in my memory banks I'm
also sure I could safely apply it to your human male if you so
wished." He blushed bright red and shook his head. Her continuously
calling Lex 'his male' was making him think of him that way as well.
That and the image of a pregnant Lex bitching at him for getting him
pregnant with a huge belly was pretty disturbing images. But the
thought of Lex having his children was strangely appealing. As if
sensing his thoughts (she probably was reading his feelings) she
chuckled. "Our pregnancies did not involve the great showing that the
earth women seem to develop. Our men had a small pouch within them
that made a slight bulge within their bellies and padding was
accumulated on the hips, but that was all. Most of the baby was
hidden deep within to protect the unborn."

He processed it all and nodded. Now that he knew a little more he
thought that it was time to tell his parents too. "I think mom
suspects something's up anyway." She was very thankful indeed that he
seemed to be found by such intelligent humans.

"Wait for later today Kal-El. I really have to take care of several
things before talking with your parents. When I come back I will find
you and we can go to the house together. I suggest you prep your
family before we do so." And with that she was gone and the hum died
down suddenly until it was barely audible. As he turned and super-
speeded back to the house he wondered what she had to do, and thought
maybe he should've asked her. After all Earth wasn't a place to not
know about and wander around. 'I'm sure she can handle herself.' He
went into the kitchen and saw that it was 4:45. He knew his father
would be up soon anyway so he started brewing the coffee, and waited
for the day to begin. It was sure to be a hectic one.

Cresta-Al stopped in front of the generator at the dam. She
disregarded the do not enter signs, and warnings and shimmered out to
reappear within the gates. Her hand rose and fingers splayed to send
out connectors to the generator. She felt herself grow more powerful
as she soaked in the primitive energy until all of her functions came
online. 'Now I may do whatever is necessary to protect the last of
our race.' When the connectors flowed back within her she shimmered
disappearing again without a sound.

Martha was up and serving breakfast as her son was washing his hands.
They had awoken to the smell of freshly brewed coffee and saw the
kitchen empty. Again before either she or Jon got up Clark had done
most of the chores around the farm. Only a few small ones were left
to Jon as he came in to shower and then sit to eat. When Jon walked
back in after finishing what was left for him, Clark was finishing
his third plate of food, Martha just finishing her first. He looked
up at them after he washed the dishes and put them away. Both his
parents had been studying him and he blushed at the scrutiny. His
mother spoke first.

"Is there something you want to talk to us about Clark? You seemed to
be a bit preoccupied lately." He took a deep breath and steeled
himself for what was to come.

"Let's take this into the livingroom okay?" They nodded and all of
them got comfortable in their respective seats. "Mom, dad, you know
that I've always wanted to know about my origin, and about everything
that's happened to me." They acknowledged his statement and waited
for him to continue having no clue as to where he was going with this.

"Well you see my wishes have come true. I now have answers to my
questions, and some that I didn't get yet will be answered in time.
But the source is nothing you or I would ever have expected. So I'm
asking you to be calm and to have an open mind about whatever I show
you. Please." His parents looked at each other worried about what was
going on. But their son asked them to be calm and to have an open
mind so they would try their best.

"Well you did that very well Kal-El. I'm assuming these are your
Earth parents Jonathan and Martha isn't it?." Everyone turned to the
opening that led to the livingroom from the dining room.

His father stood at the sight of the strangely clothed woman
in surprise and alarm. If she heard anything that Clark was talking
about... "Who are you? What are you doing in my house?"
