Superman landed on an outcropping nearby the
cave-hidden base. It had taken him quite some time
even with his x-ray to find the base with the
coordinates he was provided with.
He watched as men piled into trucks and drove out of
an opening in the side of the mountain. He scanned
them, but found the trucks to be lead lined. His eyes
narrowed and he shot up into the air and ahead of the
trucks by miles. Finding a point where the road turned
into a main one he paced back several miles, and then
blocked the path. Though he didn't have time to deal
with the men right now the authorities had been
informed of his actions and would have units up in the
area very soon. Being able to blockade the unit's men
in would help them take out who they needed to.
He took off again in the direction of the base and
landed closer this time. As the trucks had been lead
lined, the base itself had not been, except for a few
areas. Clark found a people free area and smashed
straight through the mountain face. He stopped in room
that looked like a lab. Chemicals and fluids were all
over. He stepped close to one and saw the labels.
'These are the chemical weapons Giles told me about.'
As he left the room he turned and blazed the room with
his lasers. Closing the big metal door just as the
room went up in flames he zoomed through the complex
carefully disabling each and every threat he
encountered.
Soon he stopped at the highest level of the base. He
x-rayed around and saw one room. It held his mate, two
guards, and three men, one walking back and forth
animatedly. A small box in the room was made of lead,
and Clark got a bad idea about what it could hold.
After all these men had money, and they also had the
knowledge that Superman might come pay them a visit.
Several enemies he had encountered had a chunk of
Kryptonite somehow (even though Cresi had destroyed
all the pieces on earth, space fragments had been
accosted and used), and the thought that they did
wasn't surprising.
He stood debating about the way to go in when he heard
a crash behind him. He turned to see Jeffery and his
men just inside the door.
"Superman. It's not surprising to see you here."
"Good. I need you to head in there and take out the
two guards on the left and immobilize three men to
your right. There's a lead box near the Chief of
Diplomacy. Grab it and bring it out here to me."
"What's this 'Superman'?" Agent Fierce sneered. "Since
when do we take orders from him Jeffery? We've got a
job to do."
"Right. And I don't see the wrong in helping each
other out in this situation. We have the same
objectives in mind, am I correct to say Agent
Jeffery?"
Jeffery narrowed his eyes at him, then nodded slowly.
"Sure Superman. Two guards on the left, three men on
the right?"
Clark turned and scanned the room again. "Yes. The
guards are on either side of COD Luthor, and two men
are seated on the right, one is pacing near them.
Please take care not to shoot Lex Luthor, or damage
the men to much."
"Fine. Bronco unit moving in." He gestured with two
fingers and the unit moved forward. Agent Fierce wired
the door, and the unit covered themselves, tightly
pressed next to the wall.
Clark had been watching the movement inside the room
when the door blew and saw one guard grab the lead box
and open it. He stepped back farther from the entrance
as Jeffery's unit moved quickly and silently threw the
door, smoke covering their entrance. Two of Jeffery's
men dispatched the guards quickly, while Jeffery and
Fierce shot tranquilizers at the cell members.
He sighed as Lex was untied and guided toward the hall
by Fierce. He saw Lex resist for a second and grab the
lead box. Clark smiled at his husbands thinking, and
waited for them to come out.
He watched Jeffery and his men tied the three radicals
up and haul them up. Fierce suddenly grabbed the lead
box, shoving Lex in the process, his head connecting
with a piece of debris. He flipped it open and held
his gun on Jeffery and the rest of his unit as Clark
gasped in pain. He hurriedly stripped his teammates of
their weapons, tied them, and checked his fallen
superiors.
"Mr. Right wake up."
Mr. Right raised his head with a groan, but smiled
when he saw the situation. "Good job Fierce. I didn't
think you would come through for a moment there. What
did you shot us with anyway?"
"Mild sedatives sir. Just enough to take you out long
enough to be believable."
"Excellent. The others are waking up so lets depart
with our goods."
"Yes sir." He walked into the hallway and didn't see
Superman. He walked back into the room and grabbed Lex
hauling him up harshly. Mr. Right raised an eyebrow
and he explained as he waited for Lex to steady
himself.
"I don't seen Superman, and I want to be able to draw
him out. Threaten a life and he's quick to react. Sir
we're going to have to move quickly. Are your
associates ready to leave?"
"Yes let's go Fierce."
"Traitor." Fierce stopped and looked at his unit who
watched him with deadly intent. He smirked and
gestured rudely before shoving Lex a hand wound in his
collar.
"Let's go Luthor."
As they walked out into the hallway, they formed a
diamond, the lead box held carefully open.
"Superman! Come out, come out wherever you are..."
*
Jeffery waited until they walked out the blasted door,
before gesturing silently giving his men orders
quickly. They may not have their weapons, but they
weren't by any means defenseless, and they quickly
untied themselves using sharp belt buckle edges.
He peeked out the door with the corner of his eye,
blinking away the dust that fell into his eyes. 'Have
to get this under control. Fierce was one of my men,
and there's no way I'm letting him get away with
this.'
Just as he finished his thought he heard a taunt
called out to Superman. He made another gesture, his
men and he fanned out along the walls to the door
Fierce and company went out.
*
Clark heard Agent Fierce call out to him but he
remained where he was. He wasn't going to walk into
the open with the Kryptonite in enemy hands.
"Come out and Lex Luthor will live another day."
He quickly scanned through the wall he was behind and
assessed the situation. He saw Lex being pulled along
besides Fierce, the three radicals staying close by.
Jeffery's and his men were close behind, quietly
keeping pace with them.
'All I have to do is distract them, and Jeffery should
be able to take them out from behind.' He tried to
block the anger at seeing Lex manhandled, and focused
on getting his husband out of danger.
Moving as quickly as he could though the Kryptonite
weakened him, he stepped into the path they would soon
come to.
He watched as they walked around the corner and
stopped. Fierce smiled smugly and hauled Lex in front
of him.
"I knew your weakness would draw you out. Too bad Lex
won't be around to appreciate it fully."
Just as he raised his hand to shoot Lex Jeffery's team
attacked from the back. Fierce was distracted and
Clark took advantage of the situation, lunging to them
even as the meteorite pounded pain into his body. His
vision grayed around the edges and agony shot through
his body but there was no way he'd let some radicals
hurt the mother of his children.
Just as he thought he would give out, the pain halted
and he stood up straight. He stared at Lex as he
lowered the sharp piece of glass covered in blood, the
other hand clutching the lead case tightly shut. The
glass fell from his grip beside the groaning body on
the floor. Three other bodies were next to Fierce's,
all unconscious.
Lex swayed gently, and Clark grabbed him and put the
case down, incinerating it with his lasers. He lifted
Lex up in his arms and turned to Jeffery.
"I'm going to take Mr. Luthor home. Can you handle the
situation from here?"
"Yeah, no problem Superman."
"Thanks for the help."
Jeffery smirked and nodded, and Clark shot off. He
looked down and watched mercilessly as Fierce groaned
some more clutching his side, blood dripping through
his fingers.
"You deserve more than that traitor. And you'll get it
in spades when we get back."
*
Clark landed at the castle and did a quick scan to
make sure his parents and the kids were gone. No need
for them to freak if they saw Lex in his condition.
He hurriedly undressed his mate and put him in the
shower. Once he was completely clean he dressed him in
his favorite pajamas and placed him in bed. 'I'll let
Jor-El look him over once he's had time to rest.' He
thought after a scan of Lex's body revealed nothing
out of place.
He rushed to the phone and placed a call with his
parent's and assured them that Lex was safe once his
mother calmed down. Then a phone call to the Secretary
of State, Paul McDougal to inform him of everything
that happened, interjecting 'Superman' into each
appropriate area, which was relayed to the President.
With the threat to his mate over Clark let himself
sink down onto the stool, place his head on his arms
and breath. Soon he could stand and headed upstairs.
He walked in and saw Lex curled tightly in the center
of the bed. He remained standing and studied his mate
with care, slowly, every feature burning itself into
his mind anew. Much like he had with his children
after they had been kidnapped.
Lex stirred and he looked up, Clark's eyes locking
with twin pools of endless blue-gray. Lex held out his
arms and he was instantly on the bed, nestling into
his mates' body.
"I love you." Was said with all the emotion in his
heart, as if to impart the sheer certainty that the
sun would be there the next day and that the same
could be said of his love. He inhaled Lex's scent
strongly, allowed it to linger in his nostrils before
exhaling reluctantly again. Mild soap, and that sweet
exotic aroma he exuded when pregnant.
"I love you too. Sleep love. Time to talk later."
Clark nodded and felt himself drift off with Lex's
comforting presence by his side.
He felt a small hand on his shoulder and he lifted his
head drowsily to see large hazel eyes staring at him
in concern. "Daddy are you and Mommy okay?"
Clark smiled and pulled his son close pressing a
gentle finger to his lips. He got up carefully
disentangling himself from Lex before leaving the
room, the door shutting softly behind him. "Fine now
that mommy's home. How'd you get here honey?"
"Grandpa, and Grandma brought us here. They're trying
to get Sage to stop crying cause he didn't stop since
he woke up. I think he misses Mommy."
Clark looked outside and saw that it was night from
the darkness shown through the windows. He picked Kel
up and planted a kiss on his cheek as they walked to
the livingroom. "Well I guess we better get him and go
see Mommy huh?"
Kel's face brightened beautifully and he nodded
enthusiastically.
"Can I trust you to be a quiet? Mommy needs his rest
very much now."
"Yes Daddy." Clark walked into the livingroom to see
Sage sniffing in his Grandmother's arms. He set Kel
down and squatted in front of his mother, tapping Sage
lightly on his shoulder. He smiled and held his arms
out to Sage who hurled himself into his arms like he'd
mastered the art of flying. Clark caught him shushing
the sniffles that had gotten louder, hugging and
rocking him until they stopped.
"I'm going to tell you the same thing I told Kel,
Sage. We're going to see Mommy, but you have to be
extra quiet so he can rest, okay?" Sage sniffled one
last time and nodded his agreement.
Clark looked at his parents who smiled and stood.
"We'll be heading home Clark. You all need this moment
together alone." Martha said as she stroked a lock of
hair out of his face.
"And know that we're proud of you son. We know it
takes a lot to keep going in times like these, but
you're strength will get you through it son. We love
you." Jonathan added by his wife's side. Clark hugged
them both and set out upstairs, one arm carrying Sage
who had his legs locked around his waist, the other
hand holding onto Kel's.
They entered the darkened room quietly, with Clark
placing Sage down and releasing Kel. Lex's figure was
visible from the shaft of hallway light through the
door curled in the bed. Clark guided them into the
room and to the bed. They both clambered up on it,
then on Lex before Clark could grab them. Lex sat
upright, tumbling them off of him and onto the
mattress. Clark sighed in defeat and sat on the edge
after flicking the soft lamp light on.
He smiled as Sage pounced Lex gently, pudgy arms
vise-like around his neck, face buried in his chest.
Lex blinked sleepily and stroked Sage's hair, as Kel
snuggled up to his side.
"We missed you Mommy."
"I missed you too." Lex said softly as he kissed both
boys on their heads. Clark reached over and helped Lex
comfortably lay down as Sage continued to cling to
him, the boys comfortable in between their parents.
"Mommy when is the baby coming?"
"How do you know I'm having a baby." Lex said softly
as he continued to nuzzle his children, a happy,
content glow suffusing him.
"Grandma said you were moody before you left, so you
might be having mood swings, and Daddy said you're
getting bigger -mmphf."
Lex laughed as he saw Clark clamp a hand over his
son's mouth to forestall any more words from pouring
forth. "No no Clark. Let him finish. Its material I
get to torment and blackmail you with later."
"So have you boys decided what you wanted to name the
baby girl?" Clark's strategy of diversion worked when
both boys started chatting and he threw a triumphant
grin at Lex.
"Not another spice like Aunt Chloe said. I don't want
a sister named Paprika."
Clark and Lex dissolved into laughter at Kel's sulky
attitude. Sage watched them and then curled up again
head resting on the pillow next to his mothers' head.
"Trish."
Both stopped and looked at Sage. Clark raised and
eyebrow at Lex and shrugged. "I like it. You?"
Lex smiled kissed Sage on the forehead as he fell
asleep. "Trish is nice. Do you like that name Kel?"
Kel was close to sleep as well, and he nodded slowly.
Lex and Clark shared a smile and drew the covers over
them. Clark leaned over the kids and gave Lex a warm
kiss. "Goodnight love."
"Goodnight." Was the last murmur as the light went
out, plunging the room into darkness and the bliss of
sleep.
