Rajini:
atlast announced his next film, PADAIAPPA. The shooting
started last week with the usual sentimental scene where
Rajini breaks a coconut in front of a Ganesha idol. Soundarya
and Ramya Krishnan are the heroines and K.S.Ravikumar is the
director. Vairamuthu writes the lyrics & music is by "Isai
Puyal" A.R.Rehman!!! Three songs are ready. The film will be
released on April 14th 1999 (exactly two years after ARUNACHALAM
release). Sivaji is acting as Rajini's father!!!! Abbas might act as
Rajini's brother.
Kamal:
"It is bigger than the Empire State Building, it is wider
than Marina Beach"...wait this is not Godzilla....I am referring to
Kamal's beard. Kamal allowed the Press to take photos of his
now very precious property....ie. his beard on Nov 7th (his birthday).
Industry sources say that the film will be released next Diwali and
Kamal does not want any publicity till April. While the super actor is
busy with his preparations for MARUDHUNAYAGAM, Kannada news magazines
highlight that Kamal is going to act in a Kannada movie. Nejamaa?
Vijay:
The sealing for his films is removed (ie. there is no upper limit for his
pictures and also the distributors can buy the film on the day of pooja) and
Vijay is now behind only Rajini and Kamal. If in one particular area his film used to
make a business of Rs 3 crore, now after the sealing is removed, it
makes a business of Rs 6 crore. He has been consistent in giving hits and
almost all his films starting from POOVE UNAKKAGA are a hit. Vijay produced his
recent release, NILAAVE VAA which also has joined the list of his hit movies. (Hey, my
friend Sanjeev Ramprasad has acted in this movie as Vijay's friend). Vijay's dates are
booked till Y2K.
Karthik:
has acted for the first time with Roja in Lakshmi Movie Maker's
UNNIDATHIL ENNAI KODUTHEN. The film is directed by Vikraman and music is
by S.A.Rajkumar. Ajith plays a guest role. The film's success has helped
both Karthik and Roja to look at the top spot once again.
Vijayakanth:
is acting in KALLAZHAGAR. The film is produced by Henry (the
producer of BHARATHI KANAMMA and MARUMALARCHI). The film is
being directed by Bharathi, the director of MARUMALARCHI. The
heroine is Laila (this girl was initially selected for the
film VIP but was later removed from the film). I really can't believe this...
Vijayakanth's Deepawali release, VEERAM VELANCHA MANNU actually tops the
collection list.
Prabhu:
After a series of flops and with full reports about EN UYIR NEETHANEY not
available, Prabhu is working hard for the success of MANAM VIRUMBUTHEY
UNNAI. Meena is the heroine. The film is directed by
Sivachandiran(Lakshmi's husband). Music is by Illayaraja.
Sathyaraj:
has sung a song along with Manorama in PEN ONDRU KANDEN.
Music is by Kavi.
Parthiban:
is one of the happiest persons in the film industry. He distributed
his film, SORNAMUGHI in City and Thiruchi. The film had a very good
collection and Parthiban is richer. He is the hero in Sundar.C's next film.
Soundarya was approached for this film but refused to act...now, Kushbu
is the heroine. Parthiban has also agreed to act in Selvabharathy's
next film. Selvabharathy is the director of NINAITHEN VANTHAI. Parthiban's
deepawali release, PUDHUMAIPITHAN is doing well. The film is produced by Henry.
Roja and Devayani are the heroines. The film is directed by Jeeva(debut) and
music is by Deva. One additional info...Roja plays the role of a prostitute.
Arjun:
has signed SURYAPAARVAI. The film will be directed by new
director, Jagan. Music is by S.A.Rajkumar. Also, Arjun is the hero in 'Kalaipuli'
Dhanu's MANNAVARU CHINNAVARU. Arjun is acting as Chinnavaru and Shivaji is the
Mannavaru. Soundharya is the heroine.
Prabhudeva:
is happy about the success of his telugu film, LOVE 99. After VIP, he has agreed
to act in another Kalaipuli Dhanu's film. Manisha Koirala is the heroine and the
film will be directed by Priyadarshan.
Sarathkumar:
has given 40 days call sheet to Bharathiraaja, which means,
VAAKAPATTA BHOOMI (heroine: Simran) might be his Pongal release.
Sarath has also agreed to play the title role of a historic character,
in SEMBULINGAM. The film is directed by Bhakyaraj's assistant, Suryakumar.
Music is by Illayaraja. Sarath is also acting in CHINNADURAI (Roja is the
heroine and music is by Illayaraja).
Pandiyarajan:
his next film is MANAIVIKKU MARIYATHAI. Kushbu is the
heroine.
Murali:
is one person who always encourages new directors. He has agreed
to do a film for 'Arimuga' director, Moideen. The name of the film is
ARIMUGAM. AAGAYAM, is his new movie which is to be directed by Nagaraj,
the director of THINAMTHORUM (music is by Illayaraja).
Arvindswamy:
hasn't accepted a singe rupee for acting in SASANAM. The
film is directed by Mahendran (The Director of UDIRI POOKAL) and is
being produced by NFDC. Also, his EN SWASA KAATREY (music: A.R.Rehman)
is ready and is going to be released in December. The heroine of
EN SWASA KATREY, Isha Gopikar is already famous and has been booked
for half a dozen films.
Abbas:
has acted in Rajshri Pictures' music album YEH HAI PREM.
Prakashraj:
has turned into a distributor. He has purchased the City,
NSC rights for SMILE PLEASE (Prakashraj is the hero). The
name of the film might be changed to ANANDHAKRISHNAN.
Livingston:
is appreciated by all for his role in the latest super
hit, SOLLAMALLEY. The film is produced by R.B.Chowdry
and Kousalya is the heroine. Livingston is now acting in
UNAKKUM ENAKKUM KALYANAM. He is also acting in LOVE PANUNGA
SIR.. C.Ranganathan(COIMBATORE MAAPILLAI, TATA BIRLA) is
the director.
Saranraj:
is directing ANNAN THANGACHI. Saravanan is the hero. Ofcourse,
Saranraj also plays an important role in this film.
Simran:
has danced for one song in EDIRUM PUTHIRUM and for this she
was paid Rs. 5 lakhs.
Devayani:
is now the most busiest actress (wait... she cannot match namma
Thalaivi Simran). She is acting in a dozen films
including SENDHURAM, UNAKKUM ENAKKUM KALYANAM, THALATA
VARUVALA, etc.
Meena:
is acting as a widow in RHYTHYM.
Roja:
is back to make another impact. With an excellent performance in
UNNIDATHIL ENNAI KODUTHEN, Roja is back in the race. She is busy
acting in a half a dozen films, including
CHINNA RASA, VAALI, CHINNA DURAI...
Karishma Kapoor:
has danced for a song in KODEESWARAN. The film is ready for release.
I happened to see this song...pettai picturization. Karishma dances for the
song "Nan Keezh Naatu Cleopatra" and looks greatttttt. SPB plays a small role
in this film. The film is produced by K.T.Kunjumon and his son Eby is the hero.
Simran is the heroine. Music is by Agosh(Agosh is an acronym and it refers to
3 people - Anand, Ghosh and Shaleen. Agosh were the music directors for HARICHANDRA).
Ashwini:
She was the heroine in Parthiban's PONDATTI THEVAI. She is now
acting as Vinu Chakravarthy's wife in KUMBAKKONAM GOPALU.
Sittara:
made a fine come back with NATPUKKAGA. She is also doing a
main role in CHINNA THIRAI.
Usha Uthup:
has sung a song in JANSI. Vijayashanthi is the heroine and
music is by Illayaraja.
Manirathnam:
The overseas(FMS) rights for his DILSE was sold for
Rs.12 crore. Manirathnam's next film is in tamil.
Manoj(Kiyan):
the music drector of UMAI VIZHIGAL and UZHAVAN MAGAN, is
back after a long gap. This time he is directing a film - ENDRENDRUM
KADHAL. Vijay and Rambha play the lead.
Shanker:
his next film is MUDHALVAN. Arjun and Manisha Koirala play the lead.
Shanker produces the movie and music is by A.R.Rehman. I just
thought about this peculiar connection between Shanker and Manirathnam.

Cheran:
strikes a hat-trick with DESIYAGEETHAM (National Anthem). Murali, Rambha and
Vijayakumar play the lead role. Good News: music is by Illayaraja. Bad
News: Only one song for Rambha (I wonder what's wrong with Cheran, in
PORKAALAM, a "good" actress like Sanghavi was wasted). The film is about
how we have wasted the freedom. Vijayakumar plays the role of a freedom
fighter. After this film he might direct a film for Thenappan (producer
of KADHALA KADHALA). Arunkumar, Surya and Raju Sundaram (Prabhudeva's
brother) might be acting in this film. Cheran says that his next film will
not deal with social issues but will be a jolly film.
Balachander:
atlast is ready to start his new film, THILLANA THILLANA.
This is going to be a full length comedy film. The film has an
attractive star cast which includes: Prashanth, Karthik, Meena and
Simran.
Bhakyaraj:
there is no tamil director who can be compared with him.
Bhakyaraj is the person who showed many young directors how to write
a screenplay. It was really a shock to all his fans when they saw his
last film, VETTIYA MADICHU KATTU. While many say that Bhakyaraj's film
career is coming to an end, he gets ready to prove them wrong. He is all
set to direct 2 films. One with Parthiban as hero and the other with Vijay.
Bhakyaraj is not acting (Aiyo, We will really miss his dance).
Vikraman:
Producer R.B.Chowdry has asked Vikraman to direct the 25th
production of his "Super Good Films".
Vasanth:
I don't know when his next film is going to be released. He
is too busy changing the title. ROMANCE was changed to POOVELLAM KETTU
PAAR, which is again changed to THATHI THAVUTHU MANASU.
Rajkapoor:
After KALYANA GALATA (Sathyaraj, Kushbu and Manthra), he
will be directing a film for Roja Combines(Producers of PORKAALAM
and POONTHOTTAM). Prabhudeva and Karthik will be acting in that film.
K.S.Adhiyaman:
is producing and directing THALAIMURAI. Rajkiran,
Revathi and Oorvasi are acting in this film. Music is by Illayaraja.
Adhiyaman himself his acting in this film (Director Sir, ithellam
thevaya?).
Kalanjiyam:
after POONTHOTAM, he has agreed to direct a film for
Balachander's Kavithalaya banner. Murali is the hero and Meena is
the heroine. Film industry sources say that Illayaraja will be the music
director (The last Kavithalaya & Raja combination was PUDHU PUDHU
ARTHANGAL).
Pravin Gandhi:
the director of RATCHAGAN is going to direct a film
for Ashok Amirtharaj. Arvindswamy is the hero.
'Pyramid' Natarajan:
has given advance to Nagaraj (director of hit film
THINAMTHORUM). Nagaraj is now directing VINNAI THODUVOM with Murali as
the hero.
KADHALAR DHINAM:
The film is almost completed. Kunal and Sonali Bendre
play the lead and the film is directed by Kathir. A.M.Rathnam is the
producer and A.R.Rehman in the music. One particular song costed
Rs 1.25 crore.
