| Mortal Kombat: Deception The Kombat Kontinues |
|||||||||||||||||
| Mortal Kombat returns yet again with its six installment in the series. Although there has actually been 11 games in the series, many of them just were not good. The Mortal Kombat series was starting to lose its fanbase until Mortal Komat: Deadly Alliance came out. That game won back many fans and was actually pretty good. MK: Deception continues off from where Deadly Alliance left out. | |||||||||||||||||
| The game opens up with a cinematic showing a battle between Raiden, Shang Tsung, and Quan Chi. That battle was going to determine the fate of the world. Raiden lost the battle but shortly after Shang Tsung and Quan Chi started to fight each other. Then out of no where the former ruler of Outworld made his appearance. Shang Tsung, Quan Chi, and Raiden (he was just knocked out) got up and combined their powers to stop this new enemy. Their powers weren't enough so Raiden charged up a lighting ball and exploded it killing himself and everyone else with him..except for The Dragon King. |

| MK: Deception plays exactly like the last one with some changes here and there. The environment plays a much larger role in this version. You can now die if you are knocked into a stage's death trap instantly. That was a nice little twist to the gameplay. When your opponent is about to finish you off you can take your own characters life as a "suicide move." I thought that was a little weird but once again its different. Other than those two changes the game is the same but feat not! This game has some pretty good extra modes in it. We get Chess, a puzzle fighting game, and of course Kongquest. Chess in this game is actually played like a real chess game with some odvious changes. You can set traps on the board so when a piece lands on it, it will take that piece out of the game. When two pieces are on the same spot a battle between the two pieces begins. Whoever wins gets to keep the spot and whoever loses, loses that piece. This is actually a really addictive game. There is also the puzzle fighting game, which in a way plays like Tetris. You line up pieces with the same color you can break them and get points. You select what fighter you want to be because each fighter has their own special move that gives them an advantage in the game. This mode is also pretty fun as well. We also have Kongquest but this time its much longer. This mode is actually pretty unique because it allows you to explore worlds talking and fighting people like in an RPG. It will take some time to complete this mode but it is actually pretty fun. My only problem is that it won't let you select which fighter you want to fight as for each fight. For example, let's say you got training from Melina. The very next battle you go to you will fight as Melina. That kind of sucked and took some fun out of Kongquest but that is my only problem with it. As I said before this game plays like the previous one but I do have some problems with the combat. Sure the combos are alot easier to do in this one compared to the others in the series. Not a big deal but because the game only lets you parry attacks three times it makes it frustrating. You can be winning a whole fight when all of sudden you can't parry anymore. You can block in this game of course but you still lose life. Another problem I have is that weapons cost to much damage. Yeah they are suppose to hurt but if someone hits you six times with a weapon the fight is pretty much over. The graphics in this game are pretty good on each console. However, I think they put to much blood in these Mortal Kombat games. How does a round house kick make blood spill out all over the place? But I do like how the fighters bruise if they take a beating. I wish more games would do that but they don't. Overall, MK: Deception is the best Mortal Kombat game out right now. I only expect the series to get even better with each one they put out. |
