April 5 1955 - Born in the Aichi Prefecture 200 km southwest of Tokyo April 1974 - Graduates from the design department of the Prefectural Industrial High School December 1978 - Has professional debut with "Wonder Island" in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine #52 January 1980 - Akira's first popular manga "Dr Slump" a manga about a scientist and his android daughter begins its serialisation in Weekly Shonen Jump #5/6 August 1980 - The first graphic novel for "Dr Slump" comes out. Eighteen Dr Slump Graphic Novels are eventually published from 1980 till May 1985 April 1981 - the Dr Slump anime tv series begins on the Fuji network. It spawns a movie (Dr Slump: Hoyoyo! The Secret Treasure of Nanaba castle released in 1984) before the series ends in February 1986 June 1983 - Dragon Boy 1 published in Fresh Jump's August issue. This later evolved into what we all know as Dragonball. A second Dragon Boy is released in September of the same year November 1984 - Dragonball begins its serialisation in Weekly Shonen Jump #51 September 1985 - the First Dragonball graphic novel is published February 1986 - The Dragonball anime tv series begins airing on the Fuji television network May 1986 - The Dragon Quest video game of which Toriyama is character designer is released November 1986 - The first ever Dragonball video game is released it is called "Mystery of Shenlon" December 1986 - The first Dragonball movie "The Legend of Shenlon" is released April 1989 - Dragonball TV series ends its run. Dragonball Z TV series begins July 1989 - The first Dragonball Z movie "Return my Gohan" (or in English, DeadZone) is released October 1990 - First Dragonball Z video game - Attack! Saiya-jin! is released June 1995 - The first of several Dragonball Z Daizenshuu's (Encyclopaedia's) is released July 1995 - The last and thirteenth Dragonball Z Movie - Dragon Fist explosion! If Goku can't Who Can? is released August 1995 - The final volume of Dragonball (volume 42) is released January 1996 - The Dragonball Z TV series ends February 1996 - Dragonball GT begins (Toriyama did not create this however he did act as an artistic consultant for the series) November 1997 - Dragonball GT TV series ends More Soon! |
