| GENERAL / OTHER Why no Gamecube version? "The Gamecube doesn't properly support network play, and we felt it was very important to have that feature," said Scott McCarthy, Atari's brand manager for the game. "That's the cornerstone of the game, we're going to be one of the first fighting games to go online, and there was no place for a Gamecube version with that strategy." Downloadable content is planned in the form of new environments and additional mini-games. While you won't need the PS2 Hard Disk Drive to play, it's required if you want to store downloads. Atari is still deciding on whether to create Downloadable content as they dont know if theyre planning on supporting the PS2 hard drive, and Ataris goal is to make the gameplay experience identical on both of the platforms the game is releasing on. The role of the military in the game is expanded greatly. They play a more pivotal role in head-to-head strategy. If Godzilla picks up Gigan and throws him into a building circling attack helicopters will turn their attention toward Gigan (the source of the destruction) and cut into his precious health bar with their machine guns. For folks interested in just monster-on-monster combat, you'll also have to option to turn the military off completely. The graphics are improved from Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee, but the development team is still working to make the buildings feel like real, heavy structures and less like building blocks. You can now catch objects thrown at you and toss them back at your enemies. Save the Earth will have a total of nine game modes to choose from, including Action, the mission-based single-player game; Challenges, a series of single-player challenges to complete; Custom, where players can set the parameters of a fight; Versus, the classic one-on-one melee battle; and many more. The game also includes mini games, including rail-type arcade sequences. Another new feature involves the breath attacks. If your monster and his adversary happen to launch special beam attacks at the exact same moment, the fire paths will cross, setting up a rock-paper-scissors game. Once the flames join as one, they'll turn colors, each one representing rock, paper, or scissors. By tapping the corresponding buttons at the right time the tug of war will eventually end up with one monster winning out and blasting the other down. The longer such a lock is maintained, the larger the end explosion will be. There are also several Mini-games, which are called Challenges in Save the Earth. They include the following: Battleships - Destroy battleships for points. Earn 5,000 points before time is up. Vorillium Basketball - Make as many baskets as you can in 3 minutes. The monster with the most points wins. Osaka Crunch - Destroy 70% of the city before the timer runs out. Monster Bowling - Knock down all of the monsters by throwing rocks at them before the timer runs out. Demoliton - Destroy the city. Earn 15,000 destruction points before the timer runs out. Asteroid Field - As Moguera... patrol the asteroid field and destroy as many Alien vehicles as possible. The defeat the boss (note: the boss is SpaceGodzilla in crystal form) Finally, it turns out the game is going to have very descriptive bios for each character, listing their origin, powers and film history. |
