| ATARI |
| The November issue of Play magazine has reviewed Save the Earth, giving it a B+. More interesting is the interview with a brand manager and executive producer at Atari. I got the following information from said article. - Originally there was going to be a hugely expanded single player mode where you controlled Godzilla with specific missions in each level, but it was removed due to time constraints. - They don't confirm a sequel is in the works, but they allude to it. When asked if it was for the PS3/Xenon, they refuse comment. - According to the Atari guys, Toho has just acquired the rights to Gamera, and when asked if he was hidden in THIS game their response is ended with "We wanted to give you something to look forward to (In the next game)" - The monsters 'pose' is affected by their enviornment. For example, if Godzilla is standing with one foot in the ocean and one on land, his posture will reflect this with one leg up on a 'slope' higher than the other. - According to the interview, the American Godzilla was considered for the game but there was "More red tape than you want to read about..." involved. - Pipeworks/Atari killed the proposed single player "third person action/adventure" mode in order to work on online play and fine tuning the fighting system. - Kiryu does not have his shoulder cannons (Dont know if this was up for debate, I heard someone speculate this might be his rage attack) - In a very interesting (IE, BS) answer, Pipeworks/Atari claims that the CPU fighters uncanny ability to ALWAYS know where off-screen power ups are and run to them was planned on purpose, because, as they say, the aliens planned it that way and are trying to help the enemy monsters. If you ask me, they're just lazy in fine tuning the AI. - "You'll have to dig pretty deep into challenge mode to find Orga's different forms, but they are there." - According to the reviewer, the mini-games (like monster basketball) suck. - Mothra can compete with the other monsters in terms of power and ability in either moth OR larva forms. - The reviewer also states that a CPU controlled Mecha King Ghidora is "a serious contender" - In response to the reviewer's complaints about an expansive single player mode being scrapped in favor of online, the response is "We would much rather leave you wanting more than deliver a dissapointing single player campaign that does not deliver an amazing experience." (Of course if you ask me, they should be able to do both, but, hey, at least this gives hope for a sequel) ------------ This information comes from http://www.ataricommunity.com/forum...threadid=421038 |
