SLIPKNOT Frontman To Produce New FACECAGE Album

SLIPKNOT frontman Corey Taylor is currently hard at work with Des Moines, Iowa-based metallers FACECAGE on their next independent release.

Formed in 2001, FACECAGE have grown into a powerhouse live act and an independent D.I.Y. (do-it-yourself) success story. Taylor describes the band as "the heaviness of SEPULTURA, the groove of [BLACK] SABBATH, the dark melodies of the Midwest and the drive of one hundred bands from either coast." Taylor added: "I've seen [FACECAGE] work very hard, go through various changes, pay their dues and become a great band over the years. I'm very proud of them. Success doesn't come without sweat."

When asked about the recording process so far, Taylor stated that it's going "very, VERY well. . . I see them breaking out further and hitting the national circuit. If they can stay as competitive, poignant and focused as they have in the past, they have a chance of making it."

Last summer, Taylor was approached by longtime friend and collaborator Denny Harvey about the possibility of producing FACECAGE's next album. Harvey and his (515) Management Group have managed FACECAGE for the last two years.

Said Harvey: "Corey has been a friend and confidant to FACECAGE for some time and he was ecstatic to be a part of this. He has watched FACECAGE go from playing clubs and paying their dues to becoming a Midwestern success story. This is really the next step for the band and a chance for them to work together, something Corey has been interested in for awhile now."

FACECAGE has independently released two albums so far: "Facecage" (2001) and "II" (2004).

When asked about the future of FACECAGE, Taylor had some stern advice for those who would stand in the band's way: "Whoever signs them better be ready to keep up, because if they can't they've wasted a great band's opportunity. So don't waste our time if you're not ready for history."

"Facecage III" is tentatively due next summer.

FACECAGE is:

Matt Nyberg - Vocals
Fred Missouri - Bass
Erik Long - Guitar
Sam Dooley - Drums

SLIPKNOT Replica Masks A Hit Among Fans

Launch Radio Networks reports: Halloween may have come and gone, but you can still buy your very own SLIPKNOT mask and costume and save it for next October 31. Morbid Industries has created replicas of all nine SLIPKNOT members' masks, ranging in price from $29.99 to $49.99. There's also a generic SLIPKNOT costume for $59.99 that goes with all nine masks. SLIPKNOT drummer Joey Jordison told Launch that these are the first SLIPKNOT masks that the band has officially approved. "You know, we found in, like, Europe, there's companies manufacturing our masks, and there's people that — I guess our fans — want them," he said. "And instead of, like, these companies that are ripping us off on slight altered versions of our masks, it's like, if someone's gonna be ripping us off, we need to have control of that. So we decided to go ahead and make the masks."

The masks and costume can be seen and ordered at MorbidIndustries.com.

As previously reported, one SLIPKNOT fan should have worn his mask for Halloween. According to the Auburn Journal, California's Placer County Jail was locked down last week when it was reported that a man in orange coveralls and shackles was seen getting into a car nearby. Thinking that an inmate had escaped, officials locked down the prison and did a head count, but accounted for everyone.

When police caught up with the car, it turned out that the man in the coveralls was dressed for a Halloween party. His girlfriend had bought him the coveralls so that he could go as a member of SLIPKNOT, but he took off the mask, slapped on the shackles, and decided to go as a convict instead.

SLIPKNOT resumed its tour over the weekend following the death of percussionist Shawn "Clown" Crahan's father. The band plays tonight (Monday, November 7) in Worcester, Massachusetts.

SLIPKNOT: Audio Interview With CHRIS FEHN Posted Online

A seven-minute audio interview with SLIPKNOT percussionist Chris Fehn, conducted last month by Meltdown of Detroit's WRIF 101.1 FM, has been posted online at this location (Windows Media).

SLIPKNOT had to cancel three New York shows and reschedule two Philadelphia gigs on their current tour following the death of percussionist Shawn "Clown" Crahan's father last week. The trek resumes tonight (November 4) in Montreal and is slated to end on November 15 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This tour is SLIPKNOT's final round of shows in support of "Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)", which has sold 1.2 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan

Corey Taylor Reunited With Father

Slipknot star Corey Taylor was so overwhelmed with emotion when his wife united him with his long-lost father, he cried for 20 minutes.
Taylor's mother ordered his father to stay away from them before he was born, yet he felt an immediate affinity with his estranged dad as soon as they met.
He says, "My wife found my dad and he's one of the coolest dudes on the planet.
"The first time I talked to him after my wife tracked him down was really f**king emotional. We must have cried for about 20 minutes, it was really intense.
"I never knew who my dad was; I didn't even know his name. He knew I had been born but my mom told him to stay out of my life, basically.
"Anyway, my wife really got in my mom's face about it. She realized I was older now and have kids of my own, so she sent me a letter and gave me his name and all the information she had about him. My wife took that, hired a private detective and found him.
"I'm so happy, I can't even express how happy I am at the moment.
"A whole new chapter in my life has opened."

CHRIS FEHN Discusses The Future of SLIPKNOT

Andre Mihsin of ChartAttack.com recently conducted an interview with SLIPKNOT percussionist Chris Fehn. Several excerpts from the chat follow:

ChartAttack.com: When we last spoke in January, you talked about how there was a lot of b.s. surrounding the relationship between band members during the end of the Iowa tour and during the break between albums. How are relations between the band members this time around?
Chris Fehn: "They're killer. Like I probably told you before, it took that break to save this band. Being in this band, being in this music world, it could tear people apart really fast. So we took that break and now we're back stronger than ever. But if you're talking about this leg of the tour, it's rough because it's the last one. It's like waiting for Christmas or some shit. We're holding it together, we're going to make it and then we're going to take some good quality time off."

ChartAttack.com: What did you guys do differently this time to ensure that the band would stick together for so long without getting at each other's throats?

Chris Fehn: "We're just a lot more open with everything that goes on. You grow up every record cycle, you learn a little bit more about what's going on. We always gain a little more respect for each other and more tolerance and we just keep going because we know this band is the one, we're the chosen ones whether we like it or not.

ChartAttack.com: There was very little communication between members during the last break between albums. Do you think you guys will communicate more during this break?

Chris Fehn: "Probably not. We spent so much time together; I've been living with these guys on a 40-foot bus for 20 months now. I get more time with them than I do with my family and everybody understands that. It's not like you feel separated, I mean, we got so many people, wives and children that we need to spend time with. Obviously we'll keep in touch once in a while. The Blackberries help, that invention brought us a little closer because instead of having this weird phone conversation, really quick you're just like, 'What's up dude?!' Sometimes we'll see each other in clubs in Des Moines and there's always SLIPKNOT business going on whether we like it or not. But we pretty much do our own thing until we come back and everyone understands that. There's nothing weird about it. It's family time."

ChartAttack.com: I know Corey [Taylor] and Joey [Jordison] and some of the other guys have side projects away from SLIPKNOT. What do you have going on?

Chris Fehn: "I paint houses man. Yep, I go to work, straight up. SLIPKNOT's enough for me [musically]. I'm going to get my first computer pretty soon, so I might try and put some guitar riffs on it, just screw around with that. I honestly don't have the energy to try to get something started and get a band signed and figure all that out. I'm just not that guy. I'll probably just spend time with the family and work a job and get back into that normal life, as normal as it can be, and go watch Clown and Corey and those guys' bands."
