The Ten Commandments

The court in Alabama may have taken away the 10 commandments monument, so that people couldn't see it. But as the owner of this website I can put whatever Christian material on my website that I'd like. So here it is, as God wrote it. It's God breathed, God dictated, and as God commanded:

From Exodous 20:1-17, spoke by God and told to Moses. Below are the Ten Commandments and what they mean. Don't believe me, go get your Bible and check it out! :~)

You shall have no other gods before me.

It is what is says, you are to worship the one and only God. Nothing else will do. You won't have a personal relationship with Jesus by worshipping Buddah or Allah. They are false gods and they are nothing! God is true and is alive. So stick with Him!

You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand {generations} of those who love me and keep my commandments.

Don't make any idols to worship and bow down to. God doesn't like that and won't take kindly to it either. As it says above, God will love those who love him and punish those who hate him!

You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.

Think your parents are the only ones who hate you using swearing and using God's name the wrong way? God doesn't like much either, so steer clear of it!

Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates. For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

God made the world in six days and He rested on the seventh. He thinks we should too. That doesn't mean we can sleep in instead of going to church! It means don't do any labor and things like that. Sunday is the day you spend time with God, family and friends. It's a very special day and it should be kept as special.

Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.

Now this is the first commandment with a promise added to it. God says to honor your parents and in return you will live a long life. Pretty nice promise, huh? So by honoring your parents you shouldn't be disobeying them or mouthing off to them all of the time. God's your father too and you wouldn't do that to Him would you? So you shouldn't be doing it to Dad and Mom.

You shall not murder.

Don't murder anyone! God doesn't want His own children going around and killing His other children, so He made it against the law. So don't do it!

You shall not commit adultery.

Don't have sex with another person that is not your spouse. Don't look at another person lustfully and definitly don't break this law! Most people think that this law only applies to those who are married. Wrong! God has it planned who you are going to marry and basically you are already married even if you don't know them yet. God has a special person for you already and wants you to save yourself for that person. So in a round about way, if you do have sex before you are married, you would be committing adultery on the person you will marry! Whew, what a mouth full!

You shall not steal.

Don't take something that's not yours. Don't steal from stores, family, friends, churchs, don't steal from anyone! If it doesn't belong to you, then it's not yours!

You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.

Don't lie about your neighbor, your family, your friends or anyone else. Don't lie period! God doesn't like it and doesn't want you to do it.

Last, but not least...

You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor."

Don't be jealous. God gives out wonderful blessings to those who serve Him. Jesus is everything you really need, everything else just helps us along. Make Jesus the center of your life and God will take care of your needs.

The Story of the Ten Commandments

Way back when, in about 1400 BCE (Before common Era), God heard His people crying out to Him, begging for freedom from the Egyptians. They were treated badly and were slaves to the Egyptians. God sent Moses, a Levite and his brother Aaron to take the people back to Canaan (modern day Israel). After ten awful plagues, the Pharoah sent them away and Moses led them back to their Promised Land. After escaping Pharoah once again, the crossed the Red Sea and made over to Mt. Sinai. Moses climbed the moutain and God gave him the Ten Commandments. They were the rules for the Israelite people during their 40 year journey in the desert.

Even though God gave them to the Israelites, Jesus makes it abundantly clear that we as Christians are to follow them too.

Where are the Ten Commandments now?

According to the Bible, the Ten Commandments was placed in the Ark of the Covenant. Along with Aaron's staff and the bowls that the Israelite people ate the God given manna in.

There are many stories about the Ark of the Covenant. Some say that it is down in Egypt, but that is not likely. How would it have got there? But Jewish legend says that some Jewish preists hid it in Solomon's temple. They did that to hide it from the Babylonians, because they were attacking and exiling the Jewish people at that time. Some Jewish archiologists think they have found the Ark of the Covenant, but some Islamic Palestinians won't let them through to reseach it some more. It is very likely that the Ten Commandments still remain in the Ark of the Covenant. Because whenever someone touches the Ark itself, or tries to open it, they die. Back in Solomon's day they used side poles to move it around, but I doubt they ever opened it.

What if I broke one of the commandments?

Then you have sinned, but if you are truly sorry for what you have done tell God. Tell Him what you did and that you are very sorry. Ask for His forgiveness and ask Him to help you repent. And then you must really repent. It's easier than it sounds; it is very hard, but if God can do anything, He can certainly help us!

The Ten Commandments were in the Old Testament. That's over and done with, so I don't have to follow them!

Wrong! God made those laws for a reason. Read the New Testament and it says that we must follow them. To be honest, the New Testament goes even more indepth about it. Jesus himself said to follow the commandments (Mark 12:28-34). So, yes you do have to follow the commandments.

If you have any more questions, ask your Pastor or parents. You can also ask me and I will try my best to answer your questions. God Bless!
