Q. Dear Skin Care Counselor,

     Hi. I'm currently pregnant and I plan to breastfeed my baby. Is it safe for me to use Godiva skincare products? Please advise. Thank you very much and best regards.

A.Dear KT,

     Thank you for purchasing Godiva Natural Skin Care products!

     Godiva products have been clinically tested to be proven mild and safe for use by individuals with sensitive skin, by pregnant mothers and by kids. Rest assured, these products go only as far as the epidermis, where the melanin is located and does not enter the bloodstream.

     You may also want to try using Godiva Squalane Cool Anti-Stress Lotion to help increase skin elasticity, thereby minimizing appearance of stretch marks which usually appear during pregnancy due to quick and sudden enlargements especially in the belly, breast or hips area.

      Take note that it is always prudent and wise to consult your doctor first before trying on different skin care products, as your skin may be too sensitive during this period.

Regards,

Skin Care Counselor

Stress and Skin Health

     Everyday, people have to weather numerous challenges such as pressures at work, problems at home, difficulties in interpersonal relationships, and the forces of nature. These challenges can be collectively termed as “stress factors”, or those factors which can cause stress.

     Stress is inevitable, if not a fact of life itself. However, stress stems not only from the negative aspects of life. Believe it or not, even the most positive events of our lives can bring about much stress! It all boils down to how high the level of stress we are experiencing and how positively we respond to them.

      It is important that a person can handle stress in a constructive manner, because much stress not only adversely affects the quality of life we live; it is also not good for the health. Especially the skin’s health.

   Imagine bridges. Bridges are constantly stressed by temperature and seasonal changes, the force of strong winds, or the heavy weight of traffic; as a result, these structures eventually depreciate. Like bridges, our skin’s health also “depreciates” in the face of constant stress. Being the largest organ in the body, people are literally covered by it, and in that sense, protected by it from the outside world. However, under much stress, people’s body systems and the way they regulate and replenish the skin is affected. As a result, skin problems such as ageing, acne, stressed skin, or even skin cancer may occur. Oh yes, skin cancer! Based on a study of researchers at the John Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center, stress, coupled with the sun’s damaging rays, could increase the risk of skin cancer. A similar research recently featured in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute also gave a similar conclusion.

      So what can be done about stress if it cannot be avoided? Well, even if stress is a ubiquitous part of life, its negative effects can still be minimized through:

Identifying your sources of stress and how you respond to them;

Gradually modifying your behavior once your sources of stress and the reactions they generate from you had been identified. For example, if you cope with stress through eating “comfort foods” such as candy bars or a bag of chips, restrain yourself and instead, make other options, like writing out your feelings in a journal, going for a walk, or sharing your troubles with someone else;

Learning relaxation techniques (e.g. doing things that one considers as relaxing, like listening to music or meeting with friends, etc.) and stress management techniques (e.g. good nutrition, adequate amount of rest each night, developing support networks, etc.) and incorporating them in one’s way of life.

More importantly, it pays to invest in your skin by using products that help care for it, like GODIVA SQUALENE COOL ANTI-STRESS LOTION that helps prevent damage to stressed skin.
