Biography
Before Godessa, each of these girls was already hitting the South African Hip-Hop scene in their own way. In the 1990's, Burni and Shame had met and were deciding on forming a group but at the time they weren't ready so the project didn't go any further until 2000. In 2000, each of the girls was invited to do a solo performance for a project that was being held in South Africa. They were then told to work together on a project and they found that they worked really well together and so decided to form the group. The name of the group came from the words Godess and the Egyptian, Odessa. They put the two together to form Godessa. After this, they were signed to African Dope Records and starting working on writing songs and producing them. Their first single "Social Ills" was released in 2002 and the song quickly became a radio favourite with it's catchy tune and positive lyrics. All three girls have strong lyrical abilities and have proven them on the single. Their debut album which will also be called "Social Ills" will be released in February 2004 to South Africa. Big up to the Cape Town rappers, lyrical Gs, songwriters, Godessa!
